Craft supplies and tools that even the laziest DIYers should have on-hand!

Many moons ago, I attended a monthly craft group. Most of the attendees were avid and skilled knitters who brought the most gorgeous array of fibers and objects-in-progress to work on. I was (and still am) a lapsed knitter who can’t even remember how to cast on, and really have no crafting skills to speak of. But I would show up, my giant craft bag in hand, and inevitably cook up something fun from its bizarre and varied contents.

On any given day, my craft bag may contain leather scraps, grosgrain ribbon, faux pearls, bits of feather boa, and buttons. But here are some items that, as a lazy crafter, I’ve come to see as essential. read more

Reader Request: Styling Knee Socks and Leg Warmers

Knee socks and leg warmers!!! I love them, but how to wear them? They’re great casually, but I’d like to figure out how to work them a little more professionally–can I? I like them with tights or leggings, but then they tend to make my legs look really weird.

And let me tell you, friends, I had to scour the archives to find an outfit in which I’d utilized knee socks. I also unearthed this one, which is pretty similar to the above, but that’s about it. All this to say that I don’t consider myself a bona-fide expert on knee socks OR legwarmers, and hope you can all chime in with your own suggestions. read more

Have you noticed that all posts on this blog that contain the abbreviation “DIY” also contain the word “lazy”? Let me explain why: IT IS BECAUSE I AM LAZY.

My friend Trinknitty is an amazing cook and craftswoman, and when I show up for her Crafternoon gatherings with my tote bag full of super glue and gas-station-purchased sewing kits, I make her cringe with my slapdash methods. And I’ve tried to change my ways. I have! But my DIY-ing preferences are set. If I want something done right, I hire a pro. If I want it done quickly and shoddily, I do it myself. read more
