Reader Request: Modernizing the Denim Skirt

modernizing the denim skirt

Reader Courtney had this request:

For years, jeans skirts have been a wardrobe staple for me, always just above the knee, dark and pencil shaped. I have a pretty casual work environment, so they have been a 4 season staple. I wear them with t-shirts and flip-flops, with nice sweaters and heeled boots, and everything in between. My most recent one was due to be replaced a few months ago, and as I began looking for one I realized not only could I not find what I was looking for, no one is wearing them anymore! Most of my favorite fashion bloggers don’t wear them, nor do any of the stylish ladies I see on the street, and the only stores that carry them are frumpy looking to my eye. So I’m guessing that my wardrobe staple has fallen out of style. What do you recommend I replace it with, and how can I be more aware in the future of when a staple-for-me is becoming dowdy? read more

Gracey Wears: Summer Faves

The weather has been absolutely beautiful here in Western PA this past week.  As a result, I haven’t much wanted to give up wearing my summer faves.

Nor have I had to.  I mean, I’m still running around in short-sleeve chambray tunics:

Grace of Fashion for Giants in No Nonsense denim leggings, Old Navy chambray tunic, and Echo scarf

And I’m still pairing those chambray tunics with white denim leggings:

Gracey of Fashion for Giants in No Nonsense denim leggings, Old Navy chambray tunic, Echo scarf, and Dune London lace up sandals

(I know, I know, I clutched my own pearls even as I was putting them on).

It’s not that I’m not looking forward to wearing my Fall clothes (okay, I’m mostly just looking forward to wearing tall boots).  But, for now, I’m thrilled the weather is allowing me to continue to wear my summer faves with only a scarf for added warmth. read more

Gracey Wears: A Chambray Blazer Three Ways

Dearest Reader Friends, I have something to confess: I don’t like jean jackets.

*Pauses to wait to be struck down by a bolt of stylish lightning from the Fashion Gods.*

*No lightning forthcoming. Resumes confession*

Because, here’s the what with myself and jean jackets.  I don’t look good in them.  I don’t look timelessly cool or chic.  I look like a box.  A denim box.  And there isn’t anything wrong with being a denim box if you are, well, a box made of denim.  But, I am not a box made of denim and therefore don’t want to look like a denim box. read more
