Daily Outfit: 9/9/10

Stripy dress, thrifted
Cognac leather boots, BCBGeneration Doris
Bracelet pile, thrifted, self-made, gifted
Satchel, Diaz Bags

I declared my personal bike-to-work season over upon arriving home yesterday from my final ride. The sun is now rising a full half hour AFTER I need to leave my home, and since we live in a fairly sketchy part of town,* I’m not too keen on riding in the dark.

Another reason to pause until spring? Tall boots just don’t fit into my bike bag. And tall boot time is upon us.

You might notice I’ve got a bag in these photos. I generally don’t include coats or bags in my outfit shots because … well, I don’t spend my days wearing my coats or carrying my bags. But I couldn’t resist throwing this one in. I fell head-over-heels for satchel-style bags last spring, found Diaz Bags on Etsy, saved my pennies, and voila: Satchel love consummated. The bag totally enhances this ensemble, don’t you think? I considered carrying it with me when I went to the break room for coffee, visited Cal at her cube, and scampered off to my meetings … but I refrained.

*Three neighbors on our block were robbed while HM and I were in Iceland. Representin’ the Northside, baby.

I adore this whole outfit. It is so simple, but looks so great on you. The bag and boots match perfectly and look so good together. If I saw you walking down the street I would pause to admire that outfit!

  2. Jodi

CUTE.. I like this outfit on you.. the boots and bag are great too!!!
as always, you rock the look ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Sidewalk Chalk

I love everything about this outfit — I feel like every bit of it is versatile. Nice find on the bag — I would carry it with me everywhere too!

  4. La Historiadora de Moda

That satchel is fantastic! I love the boots, too!

I'm sad that bike season is over for you. I think I'll still be able to bike in on Mondays and Wednesdays, weather permitting. I realized yesterday when I was biking to campus in a pair of tall boots with wedge heels that I hadn't done that in years.

  5. K.Line

So now you will drive? Or can you walk instead?

I am so sorry to hear about your neighbours. That is incredibly unsettling – a horrible violation for them and scary for you. Esp. given your challenge in the past and in light of the fact you were away.

Really, mercury retrograde does have to end now.

  6. Marci

I have been reading your blog for a while but never have posted a comment. The stunning simplicity of the outfit and how GREAT it looks on you; I felt compelled to let you know. I think this is by far my favorite outfit I have ever seen you wear. As you always look nice and pulled together, this outfit looks fresh, modern and fantastic! Go Sal!

  7. Rebecca

That bag is lovely. I'm glad you included it in the picture.

I'm always jealous of folks who can bike to work.

  8. What Would a Nerd Wear

i love love love that thrifted dress! and the boots and bag. this whole outfit is very up my alley!
(and i hear ya on not photographing coats and boots!)

  9. Audi

Geez, what is it with the break-ins in your neighborhood?? It doesn't seem like a bad part of town at ALL.

That satchel is gorgeous, and it works perfectly with the rest of the outfit.

  10. Rad_in_Broolyn

Looking mod and fabulous! I immediately lusted after the bag, added it to my favorites, and decided that I will someday save my pennies and buy one, too. Someday.
Evidently, they are socially responsible, too, although I couldn't find much information on that.

  11. (Hard G) Gillian

You look gorgeous! This might be the chicest outfit from the fewest amount of items that I've seen. Now my search for the perfect striped dress for fall commences.

  12. Kristin

Ok, not to sound creepy, but those boots make me feel all tingly inside. Gorge!!! Fantastical look all around for you!!

Good thing your place was safe while you were gone ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. SWF_Terra

You look so effortless in these photos. And I LOVE that you included the satchel. It's divine.

PS: STAY SAFE! Sounds like a good plan to stop biking for now.

  14. Linda W

I love this whole outfit. I've never posted a comment to you before, but I had to after seeing these pictures. Love it!

  15. katie d.

I hope you're packin' some heat in that satchel! (I was going to mention to you how much I love this bag earlier.)

  16. jill

the outfit is fantastic and you wear it well. the satchel is incredible. i โ™ฅ it!!

  17. E

You bag. OMIGOD. I am seething with jealousy right now! That is my dream bag!!

  18. Sal

K.Line: Yep, when I can't bike I drive. It's a 20-minute drive to my office, over an hour by bus, sadly.

Marci and Linda W: Thanks, you lovely ladies! I'm floored to hear this outfit caused you to de-lurk.

  19. stitchywitch

I like the dress – I'm wearing stripes today as well! I'm so jealous that you can wear boots already… we have at least another month, probably more.

  20. lyrebirdgully

Wow Sal, this outfit is 100% class. I take my hat off to the power of simplicity – just 3 well-chosen quality items (classic, non-trendy colours and timeless designs) make this outfit worthy of inclusion in the hautest of street fashion blogs. And the inclusion of the bag does give these shots that certain extra something; I'd love to always see your bag in your outfit shots – and anything else you wear/take along as you go about town…

  21. kellyroy68

It's not the first time you worn that dress.Right? But this time the styling is sophisticated.Cognac colour on boots, bags and belts is my favourite.

  22. Erin

That bag is completely AWESOME, heavy on the AWE! Damn it, now I want one too, but I'm too busy paying off debt…

  23. Kelly

Sal, I LOVE the ensemble. I want to snatch it right off of you. It's the perfect blend of cool/a little casual/pretty/flattering that I aim to achieve. And those boots? The boots of my dreams.

Awesome bag too – worth saving pennies for!

  24. Melissa

    1. You look fabulous! I love that dress and the brown as accents.

    2. I think it might be time to move.

  25. fleur_delicious

    *sigh* serious bag envy!!

Sal, I LOVE this. The warm leather the crisp stripes – perfection, tres chic!

Sorry to hear about the break-ins. Ugh, are you guys sleeping okay? I still have nightmares sometimes that, while being about other things, are clearly about the stress of interrupting a break-in last year, and running a man with a knife off my property. Good thing I'm tall, loud and foul-mouthed when angry/surprised.

  26. Emma at Daily Clothes Fix

    Ooh, love the stripes.

And that bag – think you may have triggered a click to eBay. Wonder if they'll have anything for "satchel bag like Sal's"…

  27. ...love Maegan

I love this look ..the colors are so great together! Happy Weekend!

  28. Clare

Damn. it. that is a GOOD bag. I must start saving my pennies. And this outfit? Gosh, it's PERFECT!

  29. Darcie

aaaahdorable!! love that look. ((also, my husband's car was stolen while you were away! what luck ๐Ÿ˜‰ ))
