I spied this sweater at local boutique Equation while taking an A/C break during a sweltering art fair in early June. I left it behind, daydreamed about it for two weeks, and then caved and bought it. The skull on the back isn’t printed on, it’s made of real stitches in thin black thread. I also loved the two black bands on the right sleeve and subtly curved hem which give the sweater a bit more personality from the front. Though the back is the best part, obviously. read more

Pretty sure I bought both this sweater and these pants long before Christmas, so I’m slightly stunned to see they’re both still available. Both are comfy, casual favorites in my closet. Though I’ll admit that something about the pants makes them a little less easy to style and wear than these. Could be that moto-inspired knee patches are certainly interesting, but a little incongruous on a pair of fancy sweatpants. Just a theory. read more

So. You met these Maison Martin Margiela shoes in my recent post on shoe alterations. They are so fabulous and well-made and really are wearable works of art. But after sitting in my closet for several months unworn, being worn with this outfit, and turning out to be too darned high for my now-used-to-flats-and-low-heels feet, I have found them a new home. Tough to style + uncomfortable means they just aren’t for me. Not anymore. Still glad I went through the experience of having a pair of shoes dyed, though, since I learned a lot about leather processing and what’s truly possible. read more
