I’ve worn this dress dozens of times over the years, and it makes a great canvas for interesting details. In this case, a carved agate flower necklace, bold blue wrap belt, and printed pumps. On its own, it’s just a gray dress. But throw on some eye-catching accessories, and it shines!

Do you have any garments that seem a bit blah on their own, but make great dressing canvases?

I love the Elizabeth Kelly belt with this. I have one like it in gray and you definitely have me thinking, thinking, thinking…

Ooh the belt is so adorable. Plus I love how those shoes make your tattoos pop.

I love obi belts; they can really turn a simple dress into something memorable.

I’d love to thrift a neutral shirt dress like this; it would be an awesome career wardrobe addition.

I have several solid V-necks from Target. Basic staples, but when layered over tanks and topped with necklaces or scarves, I wear them all the time.

Wow! That’s one amazing outfit you put together. So simple, and yet so elegant. I couldn’t find one fault.

ally I’ve been reading your blog a lot lately & am inspired by your positive outlook on fashion and image. And besides I just think you are pretty darn cute. I can say that because I’m a lot older than you and I think you look really good in this dress. I also wanted to tell you that I found your post on eye make up fascinating because I wondered if you wore eye make up. You look so naturally pretty I figured you did not, but when you showed the difference, it really did make a difference. I have a love/hate relationship with eye shadow and you have convinced me that a little colored eye liner is just as good for my 61 year old eyes. Thanks!! Kathy

ooops, sorry – I was going to say, hmm, I don’t know if I have any “canvases” like this, but now I want to re-evaluate my closet and see if I do, because this dress looks AMAZING with that blue belt!
