I wore this to a preview event of the new Lily + Violet boutique in the Linden Hills neighborhood of Minneapolis, which I attended with the lovely Sarah Von. I’ve felt pretty schlubby at the past few events I’ve attended, so I wanted a more polished look for this one. I seldom tuck shirts into my pants and haven’t hauled out my brooches in ages, so it felt fun to dress up as someone who looked a lot like me, but with a few newish twists.

Have you been pushing your sartorial boundaries lately? Ever dress up as someone who looks almost like you for a night out or event?

Love the glasses. The outfit is great, but I think it would be less without the glasses.

  • Brooches! Also, those pants are perfection. And yes, I often feel I’m dressed like a version of me instead of me-me. It’s kind of weird.

  • Very nice! Love this polished look. And I’d love to hang with you and Sarah for an evening, what fun : >

  • Love this look, Sally! It’s chic, fun, and professional! One of my favorites of yours!!

Love the outfit. Where are the cute specs from?

    • Thanks! They are Lucky Brand.

Love the brooches! I started getting old costume jewelry when I moved out with my first job. It was a matter of getting more for my money then, being just out of college. And it gave me a way to make my corporate suits look special – anyone remember the decade of the small neck bows that we women wore with suits? I collected for over 30 years and had quite the collection of costume brooches. Unfortunately someone broke into our home and stole all of them 2 years ago and I just haven’t had the heart to rebuild my collection. Seeing these has triggered me to want to start looking again. Lovely on that jacket, Sally.

  • OMG! I so love this on you! You look so good! The simplicity of the collar, the little heel, everything is so perfect.

  • This is such a cute, polished, look!! I love the tweed jacket, eyeglasses, and pop of color!

I have quite a few vintage, sparkly brooches. Now why hasn’t it ever occurred to me to wear two of the smaller ones together?! Thanks for the Duh! moment. I will be employing this look soon!

Love it! Classic with just a bit of trendy. Neutral with a pop of bright color. I’m going to my closet to see if I can find a similar combo.
