Daily Outfit: 9/22/10

Gray wool dress, Banana Republic
Cognac boots, BCBGeneration Doris
Wood bangle, thrifted
Necklace, Dana LeBlanc
Studs, gift from Cal

This dress is at least three years old. I walked into Banana Republic, saw it on the hanger, and felt something akin to actual lust. I didn’t have the money at the time and had to borrow from my savings account to nab it, but I’m so glad I did.

My one complaint? A cap-sleeved wool dress has about a 3-day window for wear here in Minneapolis. At least, on its own … I can certainly layer. But I prefer the dress unencumbered by sweaters and blazers and scarves.

That dress is totally covetable even with a mere 3 day window of wear! Is it wool jersey, or a woven? It looks soft and luscious like jersey, but it's not too clingy, which makes it just great. LOVE.

LAP: Thanks, lady! It's not as stretchy as a jersey, but definitely more flowy than a true woven. Actually, come to think of it, I've never come across a wool quite like it!

I think a colored cardigan would be lovely with this when the weather gets more chilly. đŸ™‚

You could always put a light/tissue type long-sleeve tee underneath! In a bright color! I think that would look great!

So cute! It reminds me of the sleeveless turtle neck tunic sweater I had. It was lovely in just-so weather, but left me too cold layering it or too hot.

I am also a little bit in love with the dress too.
If it's less stretchy than a conventional knit but not quite a woven, it may be a double knit wool (I've been them in stores), which is probably the most perfect kind of wool!

I think it'd look gorgeous with a lightweight purple or teal (long-sleeved) sweater underneath, then you'd still get to see the cuteness of the dress, but with added warmth and purple/teal both look lovely with grey.

I have a wool cap-sleeved dress too and it is infuriating! It is so pretty on it's own and there are VERY few fall days I can wear it that way. This is such a sophisticated palette of neutrals today!

This dress is perfect on you, Sal. So glad you borrowed from savings for it – and that you took advantage of the small window to wear it like this!

I have a professional position where a jacket/blazer at the ready is a requirement. I love knit dresses because they're comfortable and easy to care.

I have a wool knit and a heavy cotton knit.

One thing I have discovered is that the patch pockets on the front are a bit limiting as they don't always behave nicely if you belt the dress.

Love the dress. I have similar styles and normally wear my long-sleeved tops underneath so it doesn't disturb the line of the dress but still adds a bit of warmth.
