My cardigan and shoes aren’t the same shade of yellow. Not even close. And about two years ago, that would’ve driven me absolutely insane and I would’ve chosen a different pairing. Swap in pink shoes or a white cardigan. But I’m either getting more relaxed or lazier as I age because today I looked at them and thought, “They’re both yellow and they’re about three feet apart from each other. Works for me.”
It feels good to slowly let go of my detail-focused perfectionism, in dressing and in life. It helps me keep my priorities straight, helps me focus my energy on important tasks, helps me spend less time worrying about who might judge me for wearing a neon/citron cardigan with sunshine yellow shoes. Because I’m starting to realize that virtually no one cares how closely matched I am, or if my shirt is perfectly pressed, or if my hair has a minor frizz halo. And that’s kinda freeing.
