In addition to several orders of birthday fries, I indulged in a pair of birthday Fryes. GET IT??!?!? These Vera boots have been glued to my feet since their arrival, and are absolutely perfect for this sloppy, snowy, nasty weather since they’ve been distressed within an inch of their … lives. Do boots have lives? Let’s say they do. Promise a better photo soon. It was just me and the tripod today.

This pair of “socks” is also getting lots of wear these days. I wish I could say I dreamed up the DIY idea myself, but no. Pretty sure I first saw it in Pinterest. Soon it’ll be included in a DIY feature article I wrote for the StarTribune!

  • Very cute! And your new boots are super-wonderful (IMHO, there are no bad Fryes, or fries).

  • Oh, pretty new boots 😀

  • Boots have nine lives!

    Hooray for fries and Fryes!

  • Susan

This outfit looks great on you—very flattering. I like the black/white with tights and boots.

  • Fries and Fryes! HAHAHAHA!!!!!

  • I just bought my first pair of Fryes, inspired by … you! and am wondering if you’re wearing the socks in this photo to help break them in. Mine are gorgeous and I love them, but they seem very stiff. I’d love any advice on best ways to break in Fryes … I can envision a day when they’re as comfy as slippers.

    • Sal

Ahhh, yes. Some pairs can be incredibly stiff. I mostly go for the distressed and “slouchy” styles now for that very reason. These are soft, but with stiffer pairs, yes, DEFINITELY socks! You can also try the mink oil route: http://www.instructables.com/id/Help-take-the-pain-of-breaking-in-new-boots/ I’ll admit I’ve never done it myself, but that and other shoe treatments exist to help soften boot leather.

  • I love the simplicity and warmth of this outfit! It’s a very flattering look on you :). I especially like the way the skirt falls and the fun necklace you paired it off with. Oh, and those boots look super warm (a necessity for this warmth!)

  • Laura

This is why I buy legwarmers — & it helps bulk out my legs when I’m wearing sloppy boots.

I have to admit, I’m not sure I understand the “socks”. I read the tutorial, and she seems to be doing it for the look of it. Is that all there is to the sweater-sock-tube-legwarmer invention or does it actually keep you warmer?

    • Sal

If you utilize the full sleeve, it can serve as an over-the-shoe legwarmer and then yes. Otherwise, and in my case, it’s mostly because actual boot socks often fall down and bunch up through the course of the day. This band of material is easily adjusted and gives the look without the hassle.

        Got. Thanks for explaining!

  • Super cute outfit, and love the boots!!

  • Nat

    Super cute outfit, Sal

Looks great against the snowy backdrop

  • Alexandra

    What a chic outfit!

  • Justyn

Very cute outfit! Love the coordination! The necklace goes so well with the skirt!
