Casual Outfit Roundup: Week of March 6, 2011

I’ve got a bonus outfit from last week to share …

Already Pretty outfit featuring Bionic Unicorn necklace
Cashmere wrap, a gift – similar
Leather sheath dress, via eBay – similar in faux leather, similar vintage
Tights, Target (no longer available) – similar
Boots, Jeffrey Campbell X-ray (no longer available) – here’s a pair on eBay
Necklace, on loan from Bionic Unicorn

I wore this to attend Samantha Rei’s solo show at Hell’s Kitchen, which was incredibly fun and INCREDIBLY inspiring. Samantha is a local clothing designer, and most of her garments have a bit of a steampunk edge to them, so lots of nipped waists, corset-style tops, and big full skirts. Just my kinda stuff. I fell in love with just about everything that came down the runway – including some high-waisted bloomers that just about knocked my socks off – and even got to meet the designer. She is gorgeous and funny and exudes creativity from every pore. It was a blast. (See some great images of the looks right here.)

AND! Just to make the whole thing feel even more glamorous, my friend Kristin of Bionic Unicorn jewelry lent me this unbearably gorgeous necklace to wear for the event:

How amazing is THAT? She asked me afterward if I wanted to hang onto it for any upcoming events, and I thought to myself, “Hmmm, like going to the office?” I tried to dredge up another excuse to borrow and wear this amazing piece but failed. Which means it’ll be up for sale in her shop soon, if you’re eyeing it for yourself!

Booties, via Lori’s (no longer available) – similar
Earrings, Infrared Studios

Lori’s has opened up a special sale section of “last pairs,” and I caved. I ordered these booties in a grayish-brown weathered leather. They arrived in black, and it turns out they’d been mislabeled. I considered demanding a refund, but in the end I kept them. They’re incredibly well made, I adore the buckle detail, and I could think of at least five great outfits they’d complement. So in my collection they’ll stay!

I bought a pair of Steve Madden boots on impulse – why I should never go shopping – but I just love them. Sometimes those impulse buys satisfy more than we realize: 1) Instant satisfaction from a great garment that we instantly fell in love with, 2) Meeting and satisfing our retail therapy 3) A shot in the arm for our wardrobe. I love the plaid tunic with the riding pants. Gives me some ideas for my own wardrobe – thanks!

The first outfit–with the leather dress and the loaned necklace? Wow. Just….wow. You look fantastic. How fun!

The Groupon is a Dallas Groupon, but since it’s good online only, it’s good from everywhere there’s Internet access.

That leather dress paired with that gorgeous necklace in the first outfit are amazing!

And those booties from Lori’s are perfect. I’m sure they were fabulous in the other color too, but I think they look stellar in black.

    Have great weekend, Sal!

Hotdamn, Sal! You look smoking in that leather dress. The fall necklace is incredible. Love the new black boots, sorry to hear they weren’t the color you expected but hopefully they’ll get lots of wear.

That necklace is gorgeous and compliment your look so well. I am getting my very own and very first necklace from Bionic Unicorn sometimes this week. I even get to pick it up in town. I am so, so, so excited!

Oh my god, that leather dress is amazing. You just send that my way when you’re tired of it, okay? And that necklace is incredible. I would have been playing with that all night. The Jeffrey Campbells are perfect with that outfit!

But…but…but…the necklace has GOLD in it!!! You look amazing, and I love the outfit, but I actually did a double take when I saw it. đŸ™‚

Aha, so that is the leather sheath dress! Now I understand why you didn’t buy that delicious brown one in New York; the shape is very similar indeed. I still firmly believe you can pull off a leather dress at work though, even this black one. If anyone can do it, you can!
