So in case you missed it over on Twitter, I was pretty stoked to receive this tank from Feminist Apparel:

That’s right, it says “Cats Against Catcalls.” With a super adorable cat graphic. OF A TABBY CAT JUST LIKE HARRIET. Sorry. Will try to contain myself. The synchronicity of it all is just a little hard to bear.

I’ve given them a shout-out before, but must encourage you again to check out the offerings at Feminist Apparel. Shirts in sizes XS – 3X as well as kids sizes. And proceeds from sales of this particular style go to Hollaback, a project that aims to end street harassment. If that isn’t 18 kinds of awesome, I don’t know what is. (My tank is a women’s medium and runs a little small – I’m a size 8 on top and it fits closely.)

Insomniac Sale Picks: Sailor Pants

*In this late-night feature – which will run on Tuesday and Thursday of each week – I’ll gather up three fun items that are currently on sale online and share them with you! I would LOVE suggestions: Stylish wide-width pumps? Classic v-necked sweaters? Chandelier earrings? Petite dress slacks? What would you like to see featured?*

Allison requested a few picks for sailor pants, so here we go:

Nautica Sport Button Sailor Pants – was $89.50, now $53.70

As classic as it gets, no? These dark navy wide bootcuts have the requisite front button detailing – although in this case, they’re faux not functional – as well as a notched waistband and two-pocket styling in back. They’re a cotton/poly blend so undoubtedly washable.  Available in sizes 6 – 16. This similar pair is available in sizes 18W – 24W. This crepe version comes in petite sizes.

candies sailor pants

Candie’s High-Waisted Sailor Pants – was $48, now $32.99

This pair features a wider leg and higher waist, but also has a faux button front with functional side zipper. In my experience, sailor pants that actually button up in two rows at the front pooch and pucker, so this is likely a good thing! These are black and are machine washable. Available in sizes 0 – 13. These are juniors sizes, so check the size chart before ordering!

Nautica Slim Sailor Pant – was $89.50, now $64.99

Traditional sailor pants have wide leg styling, but since that doesn’t work for all tastes and figures it’s nice to have a slimmer alternative. These guys have actual functional buttons in case that’s a deal-breaker for ya, and they’ve even got anchors on ’em. Available in sizes 4 – 14.

maxstudio sailor pant

Maxstudio Delavé Linen Sailor Trousers – was $148, now $118.40
with code MAXOFFERS

Allison was actually hoping for linen, and this pair is by far my favorite of the night. Even though I know they’ll look like this for about 10 seconds before wrinkling. This pair has a lower rise and functional buttons. Available in oatmeal and navy in sizes 0 – 12. Maxstudio runs small, so check size charts.

Other not-currently-on-sale resources for sailor pants:

  1. Modcloth – Some are sailor-esque skinnies with button detailing, but these navy widelegs are the real deal and only $59.99.
  2. eBay – Mostly used, of course, but great variety of sizes, fibers, and colors.
  3. Dillards – Only two styles, but both cute! The ones above and these off-white ones.
  4. Nautica – Clearly. The Nautica site has two additional great styles in classic cuts.

Feline Interlude: Welcome Harriet

Honestly? I couldn’t care less about style or fashion right now. Here’s why:

This is Harriet. She is 11 weeks old. Her mama got hit by a car and she was fostered with two of her sisters until we brought her home Sunday morning. She’s a gray tabby, but looks like she’s got some orange spots worked in there, too.

Harriet has two settings: Turbo and Asleep. This is why most of the shots of her awake are slightly blurry. Little girl is FAST. When she sleeps, she sleeps hard and will stretch out in hilarious directions and wad up into unbearably cute configurations. (You see her snoozing on our bare mattress because Sunday was sheet-washing day.) She is more Asleep than Turbo, but when she’s on, look out. Nothing is safe from her curiosity. See a short video over on FB.

She purrs loudly. About 80% of the time just generally, including while zooming around the house chasing toys. If she is not currently purring, touch her to activate her motor. She purrs while sleeping.

As you can see, Simon is reserving judgment at this point. He mostly tolerates her, although there has been some hissing and growling. She keeps trying to check him out and nuzzle a bit, so we’re hopeful that it’ll just take a few days for them to warm up to each other. He has made some extensive investigations during her Asleep periods, and I believe he thinks she smells pretty good. So fingers crossed.

Now if you’ll excuse me, Turbo Harriet just knocked something over in the dining room …
