*In this late-night feature – which will run Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week – I’ll gather up three fun items that are currently on sale online and share them with you! I would LOVE suggestions: Stylish wide-width pumps? Classic v-necked sweaters? Chandelier earrings? Petite dress slacks? What would you like to see featured?*
Carole requested a few picks for cardigans that work with dresses, so here we go:
Antonio Melani Ella Cropped Cardigan – was $99, now $34.65
There are dozens of different dress styles and an infinite number of ways they can fit to your figure, so this is a tough request! But I’ll throw out a couple of styles I know work with certain dresses. For high-waisted silhouettes, especially those with full or pleated skirts, a cropped cardigan that falls above the dress waistline can work beautifully. This simple cardi is cropped AND features long sleeves, which is a tough combo to find! Available in sizes S – L in black and also in mustard.
J.Crew Tippi Cardigan – was $85, now $39.99 – $59.99
Most of J.Crew’s cardigans work well with dresses for two reasons: They’re fairly thin, and they’re shaped, not boxy. The Tippi here is a great bet for dresses with defined waists – including sheaths, fit-and-flare, and anything belted – and rounded necklines. Available in sizes XXS – XL in this red, as well as seafoam, lilac, pink, black, camel, pale green, coral, lavender, hot pink, ivory, kelly green, cobalt, and teal. Size availability and price vary by color.
Peter Nygård Long Sleeve Cocoon– was $89, now $43.95
This option is an unexpectedly great shape for wearing with dresses. Cardigans with curved hems and “cocoon” shapes – especially ones with shaping in the back like this one – glide over most dresses very elegantly. (If you go for a cocoon shape, try for one that’s relatively fitted.) Available in sizes S- XL.
Other not-currently-on-sale resources for cardigans that work with dresses:
- J.Crew Factory – Since most cardis are lightweight, they conform easily to dress shapes. Loads of great colors, too!
- Modcloth – Shorter lengths and slimmer cuts abound! This cropped navy cardigan will work with dresses with higher waistlines.
- Anthropologie – An especially good bet if you’re seeking printed or embellished cardigans to perk up solid colored, plain dresses.
- And, of course, THRIFT STORES! It’ll be hit or miss, for sure, but many of my favorite cardis hail from the thrift shops. (thethriftshopper.com can help you locate stores near you.)
