Winters in Dubai aren’t super cold so we don’t get to wear too many layers and honestly, I struggle with winter fashion because I’m not crazy about spending money on clothes I would only get to wear for about 2 months in a year. I tend to buy pieces I can wear for a few years, and prefer something that is easy to layer with my existing wardrobe.

I don’t know why, but a fur gilet isn’t a common sight here and I get a lot of sarcasm for wearing mine. I think it’s crazy because I love it! First of all, it’s faux fur, it’s cuddly and it keeps me warm. I can wear it over jeans and a shirt for a casual day look and glam it up with a slinky maxi dress for nights.  Also, I scored this fur gilet half off on the sale rack. What’s not to love?! I’ve been accused of killing the abominable snowman, asked where my tiara and diamonds were, and  my boyfriend said I looked “so country” (what on earth does that mean?).  But I shrug off all the jokes because I feel awesome in it and I love the endless styling possibilities I get to play with. If other people don’t get it, that’s their problem. It’s not my job to school them in fashion but it is my job to make myself look and feel fabulous, right?

Gilet! A new word for me! I would have called it a vest, probably, although it clearly isn’t a classical vest. Anyhow, it looks like it’s as much fun as you have indicated, and if I were you, I’d find myself a tiara or at least a long string of pearls for evenings, and dare my boyfriend to call that “country.” It’s hard to go wrong with cuddly.

I think I picked up gilet from reading too many british fashion magazines hehe, and I highly recommend them. Cuddly and feeling fabulous will always win over anybody else’s comments :) Thank you!

I like a faux fur vest, and I live in Florida, where they’re not really “needed” either : > You look great!

You wear it well and should continue to enjoy it! There will always be others who try to tear us down. My favorite saying in those situations is “Consider the source” in this case are these people who you would normally turn to for fashion advice?

I probably wouldn’t although I do occasionally ask for other people’s opinion. But I think style is so subjective that even fashion experts can go wrong, I’d rather express my style and be lame than acceptable and safe :)

Your outfit is fabulous and you look fabulous in it! I love the furry gilet, even if it isn’t cold it’s still winter and that makes it the right season to wear clothes that inspire the idea of being cold and dressing warmly. Did that sentence make sense to anyone but me?
