This is before the BIG snow hit, but you can see the first blobs of white in the background. I wore this for a party that included a screening of the undeniably trippy Star Wars Holiday Special, which aired in 1978. Imagine 10-minute stretches with nothing but Wookie dialogue consisting of grunts and howls, psychedelic dance sequences, and Princess Leia singing. Also Bea Arthur singing. Also lots of other weirdness all in the name of the Wookie Christmas equivalent, Life Day. It was a blast.

Have you attended any fun and unconventional holiday parties this season?

That jacket is still incredibly cool. I can’t believe how well it turned out. Sounds like you had an interesting party! I haven’t really left home much except for errands. Our weather has been wacky and I’ve had a cold though.

I love Wookies. Great cold-weather look, Sal!

You know, George Lucas was furious about the Star Wars Holiday Special. He vehemently denied any connection with it. You can see why, haha. I think Carrie Fisher was stoned out of her mind for the whole thing. We actually have it on videotape in the basement, because my husband was a fanatic in his youth. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything more ridiculous.

Great smart casual look. Sounds like an awesome party! Nothing as wonderfully off-beat here, though had a really special meal out with lovely people for Beary’s work celebration.

Thank you for introducing me to a bit of American popular culture that I somehow missed entirely the first time around!

Oh, the infamous Holiday Special. I knew it would be terrible, but I underestimated how many kinds of terrible could be crammed into one film. Sal, you’re a great sport.

Okay, I don’t mean to nitpick with this… I made the same mistake for years! “Wookie” should be spelled “Wookiee.” It seems like most people don’t know about the extra E, but I figured you’d want to be as accurate as possible. :)

Great outfit: warm and chic. Do you have advice on slippery boot soles? My Fryes’ soles are so slippery I can’t wear them in wet weather. There must be something that can be done to help them grip. Thanks in advance for any tips.

You’re giving me some serious scarf envy right now! Whoever bought that for you definitely picked a winner!

Sal – After admiring all of yours, I’m seriously contemplating a Foley + Corinna Mid City Tote. Do you ever actually use the cross-body strap on yours? Is it long enough to wear comfortably?

Kellie, you’ll love that bag! I do use the strap, but not across my body. It would be long enough to carry that way, but only if you’re not wearing a coat. I generally just sling mine over my shoulder.
