Insomniac Sale Picks: Non-metal Statement Necklaces

*In this late-night feature – which will run Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week – I’ll gather up three fun items that are currently on sale online and share them with you! I would LOVE suggestions: Stylish wide-width pumps? Classic v-necked sweaters? Chandelier earrings? Petite dress slacks? What would you like to see featured?*

Emma requested a few picks for metal-free statement necklaces, so here we go:

Woven Choker Necklace – was $33.99, now $18.99

So some metal allergies are worse than others, and this piece does have “metal alloy” in the description – I’m thinking the beads are strung on wire that would never touch the skin. The main components are crystal beads and fabric ribbon, so I’m hoping it’ll work for a few of you! Chokers can be tough to style, but this piece would look fantastic tucked under a button-front shirt collar as a “necktie” element.

ZAD Blue and Orange Glass Beaded Bib – was $52.99, now $34.99

This is a big piece and bold, but paired with a simple tee and dark blazer, it’ll look fantastic. Constructed from cotton ribbon and seed beads, so metal-free!

Beaded Chunky Necklace – was $12, now $8.04

How great to be able to get the look of mixed metals without the metal! This 34″ long multistrand necklace isn’t the typical bib-style statement necklace, but it’s definitely fun and eye-catching. There’s also a slightly shorter black-and-coppertone version for the same bargainous price.

June’s Bib Necklace – was $50, now $38.99

But in case you ARE looking for that classic triangular bib, here’s a ribbon and rhinestone version that will fit beautifully into a v-neck. (It comes with earrings, but since they use metal hooks I imagine they’ll be pretty useless to the allergic.)

Other not-currently-on-sale resources for metal-free statement necklaces:

  1. Etsy and Fab – Etsy has everything, including cloth, tagua nut, and leather pieces. Fab’s stock rotates every day, but allergy-friendly jewelry pops up nearly every week.
  2. Anthropologie – A surprising number of pieces are cloth and ribbon-based. Many will depend on the severity of your allergy as quite a few have non-metal chains with metallic pendants. But this bib necklace is 100% metal-free and lovely.
  3. Sundance Catalog – Check the sale section for linen, silk, and semi-precious gem strands.
  4. Glam-net – This one’s new to me, but carries several variations of this silk bead necklace, as well as this stunning bib.

An additional suggestion–those on *very* tight budgets can often rig up a bib necklace on the cheap by adding ribbon to heavy appliques (beaded, embroidered, sequined, you name it! There’s a great Etsy store called paviapavia that makes appliques big and bold enough for this).

Wow, everything in that Etsy shop is amazing!

I have sensitivities to base metal alloys (I suspect copper and nickel, but for some reason pure brass is tolerated by my skin chemistry) and have always bemoaned the prices of a statement necklace made in solely sterling silver or gold. I never thought about going completely metal-free, though!

    That first necklace is gorgeous!

Thank you so much for this feature Sally! I’m allergic to nickel so most of the statement necklaces in my budget aren’t suitable because they don’t play nicely with my skin. Silver ones are sadly, still out of my price range.

    These are great Sally, thanks!
