Insomniac Sale Picks: Boat-neck Shirts

*In this late-night feature – which will run Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week – I’ll gather up three fun items that are currently on sale online and share them with you! I would LOVE suggestions: Stylish wide-width pumps? Classic v-necked sweaters? Chandelier earrings? Petite dress slacks? What would you like to see featured?*

Kaitlin requested a few picks for boat-neck shirts, so here we go:

Karen Scott Three-Quarter-Sleeve Boat-Neck – was $29, now $19.99
PLUS an extra 20% off with code SHOP

This top has a high, shallow boat neck which can be great if you have modesty concerns. The cuffed sleeves make this a great, updated basic. Available in white, navy, red, and black in sizes XS – XL.

Bella Stitched Boatneck T-Shirt – was $17.38, now $5.49 – $13.86

Most of my tanks and tees are Bella Brand, and I adore them. I haven’t sampled this specific style, but if the quality of their other products is any indicator, it’ll be sturdy and well-made if cut a bit small. Available in sizes S- XXL in red, white, pink, navy, and black.

MICHAEL Michael Kors Stripe Side Zip Top – was $69.50, now $34.99

Here’s a stripy options, if solid basics are feeling a bit dull. It’s got a longer silhouette, with cute ruching and zipper details on both sides. Available in this blue/white stripe as well as red/navy stripe in sizes S – XL (availability varies by color).

Other not-currently-on-sale resources for boat-neck shirts:

  1. J.Crew – As a purveyor of layering basics, this retailer typically has a boat-neck or two in stock. They’re often striped, but solids show up, too!
  2. Nordstrom – In-house brand Calson is a good bet for boat-necks, but other options abound. Also search for “bateau neck.”
  3. Old Navy – Online stock differs from in-store, but the website nearly always has a boat-neck or two. I’ve ordered them in many colors from Old Navy myself! Here’s the current iteration.

  • Love these tops – am looking for some casual wear for Autumn so thank tou for the hints!

I can vouch for the Old Navy boatnecks!! I have a number of these boatnecks and I love them.

As is typical with Old Navy, the quality of any given color/fabric varies. I have a couple bright colors that are, indeed, very lightweight and a great transition layer. I also have a couple darker colors that seem a little heavier (making them seem a little sturdier), but still light and so comfortable. I did try this shirt in white, but the fabric was WAY too thin (see-your-bra thin), so back it went. Basically, your mileage may vary.

They are flattering and fitted, with a nice cuff seam on the sleeve, and a modest neckline. For $14 (or less, with Old Navy’s frequent sales), it’s worth a try.

The Old Navy boatnecks come in great classic colors too; love their dark grey. Very Parisienne. Ooh la la!

Why are seemingly all boatneck shirts three-quarter sleeves? What I wouldn’t give for an elbow sleeve or true long sleeve!

    • Sal

Oh, those are out there, too! Well, elbow sleeves anyway. The request was for 3/4 but I forgot to mention that … take a peek at Nordstrom.

  • Suze

They may not be available right now, but seasonally J.Jill and Talbot’s usually have boat neck tees with 3/4 sleeves. Sometimes they are called ballet neck or ballet sleeve. Watch for them on sale and they are a good buy though not as inexpensive as the ones above. Mine have lasted a couple years if I’m careful about drying them.
