Dressed for: Sunshine on a Cloudy Day

Already Pretty outfit featuring striped blazer, orange dress, leopard pumps, Marc by Marc Jacobs turnlock bag, wide belt

Striped blazer, Express (no longer available) – similar
Orange dress, Mountain Hardwear Loess via 6pm
Belt – Banana Republic (no longer available) – similar
Leopard pumps – Anne Klein Watchit
Bracelets, Target
Earrings, via Opitz – similar
Bag, Marc by Marc Jacobs via eBay – more turnlock bags

Nothing like a colorful dress to help make an overcast day feel less gloomy. Maybe I can’t make my own sunshine, but at least I can brighten my immediate surroundings.

Are you more apt to wear bold brights on gray days? Or do you tend to match the weather and go for subdued neutrals? (I could go either way, depending on my mood!)

Stripes and leopard AGAIN! I love this combo! Also – that color orange is fantastic!

Sal, the contrasting prints separated by bold color are very inspiring. I’m a little shy, still, of the multiple-prints-in-one-outfit trend, but the stripes and animal print along with the orange somehow add up to “classic” to my eye.

Definitely with you on wearing bright colors on a dreary day. I have a shimmery sky-blue scarf that I always pull out when it’s bleak. (By contrast, today is sunny and I’m all in grey and black.)

  • LOVE that striped blazer and the little pop of animal print! This looks is proof that I need to find me a striped blazer… you look great!

  • I usually go subdued to match the weather. Buy, you’re right… definitely according to my mood. Love the bright dress w/ striped jacket!

I bought several yellow items this spring (short sleeve cardi, long sleeve cardi, skirt, and polka dot shirt). Nothing like the color of the sun to ward off the rainy day blues. However, we have had almost nothing but hot, sunny days since. Maybe I need to find a color that helps cheer me up when all I want to do is hide in the air conditioning with the curtains drawn.

  • Very cheery look for a cloudy day – I love these choices, Sal. It’s always amazing to me how “neutral” my animal print shoes turn out to be : >

  • Love the jacket. The stripes with animal print are a nice, unique combination.

  • Super cute, Sal! All my faves in one outfit!

  • I’m kind of a Debbie Downer when it comes to gray weather. I think it has to do with not wanting to get my feet wet and/or just wanting to go back to bed and pull the covers up. No matter what I thought I was wearing the night before, I’ll pull out quieter, more comforting clothes.

I really love a great striped blazer for the office. This one rocks!

I guess I am a sucker for dressing like the weather and I never noticed it before. My brighter clothes seem to be reserved for spring. Perhaps now that I’m aware I’ll be able to break out of my rut.

I definitely love to wear bright colors on rainy days. But mostly I wear bright colors all the time, and I just happen to live where the weather is predominantly grey/rainy.

  • Love the mix of leopard and stripes with that fab red dress. I tend to wear stuff that reflects the weather, otherwise I feel oddly out of place. I sometimes even feel like “is this too much color” in winter. Hoping to change that because a little color can brighten any day, but dressing fall/winter feels so different from the ease of brights and no layers.

Love the look- was curious why you chose fuschia lipstick with that orangey-red? Conscious rebellion against matching or more subtle color play?

    • Sal

Just like the look of orange and pink together!

Love this outfit and I want to get the dress. Would you mind telling me what size you get and how it fit (eg size up, size down, tts)? Thank you!

    • Sal

I typically take a size 8 dress in mall stores, and ordered a large. It’s a bit big in the armpits/bust, but fits well elsewhere.

      • Anna

        Thank you Sal!!

How can a large be equivalent to size 8? Confused. 8 is medIum.

This is spectacular! One of my all-time favorites. I never would have thought of that orange and B&W stripe combo but it is great!
I dress more on my mood. If I need a pick-me-up, I wear brights.
    Thanks for the on-going inspiration!

I wasn’t initially impressed with her. but this is due to my own evolving tastes. I’ve always loved fashion but I realized that ALL of my fashion idols were similar – slim, young, wealthy, etc. Basically, the people featured in most mainstream publications. it was only until recently how I really came to appreciate how important it was to see fashion (blogs) by a vast array of sizes including petites ages and yes, income levels. Seeing the variety helped me see how I fit in – how clothes would look and just the idea that I didn’t have to look like a model to be celebrated.

  • if I matched my clothes to the weather, my whole closet would be grey! (I’m in Seattle)
