Dressed for: Tones

Already Pretty outfit featuring cobalt button-front shirt, pleated periwinkle skirt, magenta snakeskin flats, turquoise necklace

Cobalt button-down, thrifted - similar
Pleated skirt, Banana Republic via eBay - similar
Magenta flats, thrifted Banana Republic - similar
Wrap bracelet, self-made with this tutorial
Dichroic glass studs, gift – similar
Necklace, Clemoon - similar

I’ve been admiring tone-on-tone ensembles for months now but, as usual, it’s taken me a looooong time to land on a combination for myself. This shirt has just enough purple in its undertones to work with the periwinkle skirt. I added some dashes of magenta and turquoise to break up the blues.

The pleated skirt and flats are giving me a bit of a retro vibe, but the color combination makes it contemporary… a great mix, I think :)

Also, tying the shirt into a knot is a great idea – makes the whole outfit a bit more casual and effortless than tucking it into the skirt. I’ll have to try this some time!

I love tone-on-tone dressing, but like you, I don’t quite have the right pieces. If I did, I’d definitely go with blue though; I love this look!

Lovely color combination! Just wondering — I see this as a button-front shirt (buttons down the front), not a button-down (collar points held down by buttons, as often found in menswear). Am I missing something?

Nope! Just an ongoing nomenclature dispute. I called these button-downs for years, as do many vendors of women’s shirts that don’t have collar buttons. Just forgot to swap out for button-front today.

Fabulous look! I’ve been wanting to do something similar in reds for awhile. It’s just been too hot for layering even light layers.

This is one of my fave of your outfits. Blue is my favorite color to wear, and I have been searching high and low for an affordable pleated skirt to suit a petite frame. You’ve inspired me to try eBay. At Megan from Megan Mae Daily’s urging, I recently scored a J. Crew skirt via eBay, from someone that had outgrown some clothes. Megan had to teach me how to eBay :P
