A friend complimented me on my jacket when I wore this outfit. I didn’t correct her. It’s just a button-front shirt, but it’s so shaped and so stiff that it can double as a jacket. Definitely a multipurpose garment.

I love that deep red on you, Sal! I’m calling burgundy and dark reds as the big colour for fall/winter.
I’ve got a lovely thin floral silk dress that I’ve wearing this month as a tunic, as well as a top tucked into a skirt. I have yet to wear it as a dress! (But I’m sure I will).

Yes, that dress is made for you, call it The Sally! I love doubling up a dress as a skirt, or a skirt as an under-skirt.

My best versatile items are a jacket that actually works better as a dress and a reversible skirt.
Those chunky sandals make your legs look extra amazing! I’m conscious of that on my own body: puny shoes make my legs look like tree trunks whereas chunky shoes make the same legs look svelte. Love your whole blog by the way too!
So timely, thanks Sal! I just bought (on eBay) a shirt that is a fraction too tight. Maybe it will work over something. Belted? I was resigned to wearing it under a vest, which is kinda limiting.
Belting could totally work! Would it do as a jacket, like this one here? Or you could try buttoning it half way down and knotting it at your waist.
I have a bunch of skirts that I wear as strapless dresses. Once I realized that one of them worked (it has a nice wide covered elastic band), I started hunting them down. I probably have 7 or 8 now. SO awesome for traveling!

I wear a button-down shirt as a jacket frequently, usually a white shirt over a black tank and pants. The secret is to do it with a fitted shirt, as you have done here. Also, for shirts that gap at the bust I unbutton them to the waist and wear a Molly* underneath them.
*Molly is a kind of half-camisole that ends right under your bra. I get mine at Lee Lee’s Valise in Brooklyn.
i don’t have anything in my closet that can do double duty like this, but my boyfriend’s side of the closet is full of shirts that can double as jackets. he loves structured button-up shirts and often the more structured the shirt is, the heavier the fabric it’s made from happens to be. i’m only now starting to realize that they aren’t actually jackets.
