Dressed for: Modern Love

Already Pretty outfit featuring magenta bolero sweater, black and white abstract print dress, Pour La Victoire Felicia, leather cuff bracelet

Bolero sweater, thrifted – similar items
Dress via eBay – similar
Shoes, Pour La Victoire Felicia (no longer available) – similarmore colorblock sandals
Cuff, art fair – similar
Earrings, The Wellington Boot

This bolero is a recent thrift score, and I’ll admit to hesitating even though it’s one of my all-time favorite colors. The slightly poofy/ruched shoulders are a little on the 80s princess side for me, but paired with some colorblocked sandals and a graphic dress, I think it looks just modern enough. Even if I did throw a rather Billy Idol-ish studded cuff into the mix, too.

Also this is what happens when Husband Mike says, “Pretend like you see a puppy.”

  • SHOES! Soooo gorgeous.

Also, awesome I-just-saw-a-puppy face. You should totally go into acting.

  • Mia

I think you did a great job modernizing the shrug, Sal! It doesn’t look in the least bit dated. (Although, might I say–it IS a nice day for a white wedding.)

  • Danielle Marie

Sal, one of the things I love about your blog is that your personality always shines through your writing and your outfits, and what a great personality you have! I feel like we’re friends by reading your blog everyday, even though we’ve never met. It’s so refreshing that you have the ability to transcend the potentially cold internet and warm up the page. The last picture actually made me laugh out-loud. Thanks for all you do!
    Much reader-love from Stanford, California,

The “I see a puppy” picture is amazing! Puffy sleeves give me pause too, but I really like this bolero on you. What a fun color combination!

  • Shannon

The puppy shot is the cutest photo ever! Great outfit and colors, but the face just takes the cake.

  • GinaMarie

Having an absolute hankering now to dig through my closet to find something raspberry to pair with black and white! The bolero didn’t even read “80’s” to me at all and I even had to scroll back and examine the sleeves more closely. Looking sharp 🙂

  • Maggie

Is that your cute puppy face? I thought it was your “my new book sold how many copies on Amazon?!” face!

    • Sal

Hahaha. I wish, Maggie! (Maybe someday soon. 😉

  • The bolero’s color is so pretty. I love your expression in the last photo!

  • Puppy!!! 🙂

  • Just found your blog while searching for other Minn. fashion and style blogs.Great look, I love the last photo, I love puppies too! 🙂

  • Wow this whole look is great! I love those sandals, and the matchy match look is perfection.

  • Looks great! Love that dress, and those sandals are fantastic! xo

  • Meg

The “puppy” photo is priceless! I absolutely love the expression on your face 🙂

  • Frenchie

Love that your husband has a sense of humour! I married one of those, too. Since I walk to my gym (two blocks), my husband always reminds me to be careful crossing that one busy street because “you wouldn’t BELIEVE the paperwork” (ha, ha).

BTW, I loooove those shoes. I think your taste in shoes is great!

  • So, you should ALWAYS pretend that you see a puppy. Adorable. And those shoes are HOT! You wear them well.

  • Love the way you paired the pieces together in this outfit! These are always my favorite fashion posts — something I would totally wear and pairing items I wouldn’t necessarily try. Those shoes are incredible.

  • That’s pretty much the face I make for any adorable small mammal. 🙂 Love the outfit, I get inspiration from you all the time!
