Insomniac Sale Picks: Pussy-bow Blouses

*In this late-night feature – which will run Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week – I’ll gather up three fun items that are currently on sale online and share them with you! I would LOVE suggestions: Stylish wide-width pumps? Classic v-necked sweaters? Chandelier earrings? Petite dress slacks? What would you like to see featured?*

Heather requested a few picks for pussy-bow blouses, so here we go:

Karen Kane Blouson Sleeve Bow Shirt – was $119, now $91.58

What a gorgeous, classic blouse. The 3/4 sleeves make it ideal for year-round wear, the long draped bow is incredibly elegant, and the shoulder ruching is a great finishing touch. Available in sizes XS – XL.

Hyacinth in the Sky Top – was $49.99, now $34.99

This airy, sheer-sleeved option features a print that will transition beautifully from summer to fall. Pull out the coral and white for warm weather wear, then shift to mustard and teal when the season shifts. Available in sizes S – L. Also there’s one left in this mauve dot print in size S!

Line & Dot Silk Tie Blouse – was $84, now $49.99

Heather was actually hoping for silk blouses specifically, but friends, most of the silk options are $300 or more. This version is a tough color for many complexions, but a great price and pure silk. Available in sizes S – L. And just so I have my bases covered …

525 America Silk Tie Front Shirt – was $118, now $86.02

… here’s a pure silk sleeveless pussy-bow blouse that comes in this gorgeous purple, dark navy, and lime green. Available in sizes XS – L.

Other not-currently-on-sale resources for pussy-bow blouses:

  1. ASOS and Topshop – Both of these European retailers stock pussy-bow blouses regularly. If stock is low now, check back in a month or so when fall items will start to creep in. (I KNOW. So early.)
  2. eBay – Vintage, used, and brand new options abound!
  3. The Outnet and Bluefly – Fancy-pants designers love bow blouses, so cruise the designer sale sites for bargains.

I have never heard these called “pussy bow” blouses before. Where did the name come from?

Haha… I just clicked on “comments” to ask the very same question. Why pussy bow??

Also, I’m wearing my one and only pussy bow blouse today. Timely! 😉

I think “pussy bow” is a European term. US vendors tend to go with tie or tie-neck. Anyone know the origins of this term?

  • LOVE love these kinds of blouses! The second one is so gorgeous.

For people interested in vintage pussy bow (so hilarious!) blouses, Etsy is full of them.

  • Anamarie

I have heard these blouses called “pussycat bow” but not “pussy bow.” I always imagined an old cartoon with a cat wearing a large bow at its neck. ?
