Insomniac Sale Picks: Dresses for a Summer Wedding

*In this late-night feature – which will run Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week – I’ll gather up three fun items that are currently on sale online and share them with you! I would LOVE suggestions: Stylish wide-width pumps? Classic v-necked sweaters? Chandelier earrings? Petite dress slacks? What would you like to see featured?*

Happy requested a few picks for dresses appropriate for a summer wedding, so here we go:

DKNYC  Pleated Dress with Tie Belt – was $159, now $94.90

Happy specifically asked for a few longer length options, and this midi fits the bill. The bright coral is a fabulous hue, and the dark tie belt enables pairings with darker accessories and shoes. Throw on a wrap if it gets cold, or bare your shoulders if the sun is beating down. Available in sizes S – L. (Also available in XL for full price here.)

Anne Klein Belted A-line Dress – was $129, now $90.30

Florals are always a great choice for summer wedding wear, but these bright, festive stripes offer a fun alternative. Pick up any of the colors when accessorizing or adding cardigans or wraps, including tan, cognac, navy, red, and orchid. Hits at knee. Available in sizes 0 -16.

Chaus Print Dress with Twist Knot – was $79, now $52.90

If bright colors aren’t your thing, this printed neutral dress is a great bet. Half sleeves provide coverage, but keep you from sweltering and the knot detail is fun and flattering. This guy has plenty of accessorization options, too, including black, brown, metallics, and dusty colors. Dress is 39″ from shoulder to hem, available in sizes S – XL.

Mirrored Truths Dress – was $288, now $149.95

I’m throwing in a fourth tonight since I love it, but know that navy may seem a bit dark for a summer wedding. However this cotton-silk blend dress has such great details: The flattering v neckline, fun sleeve details, button-up back, and the intricate bodice. AND you can amp up the color by adding contrasting shoes and a bright necklace – try orange, magenta, emerald, or just about any shade of purple. (Reminds me of this dress of mine, which I’d totally wear to a wedding!) Available in sizes 0 -10.

Other not-currently-on-sale resources for dresses appropriate for summer wedding guests:

  1. J.Crew’s Bridesmaid offerings – Now listen, these are not stereotypical bridesmaid dresses. They’re simple, sleek, versatile, and beautiful. Great options for guests as well as wedding parties.
  2. edressme – An amazing resource for formal dresses of all kinds. They’ve even got a “wedding guest” section!
  3. Anthropologie – I’m pretty sure that every dress I’ve worn as a wedding guest has been from Anthropologie. At least, in the past five years. Check clearance for great deals!

eShakti is my new favorite place to find summery wedding guest dresses; and the best part is the prices are reasonable even when you do customized measurements. It’s good quality work: side zippers, you can change the length/sleeves of the dress, lots of color options…it’s awesome.

  • Mrs.M in MI

The vast majority of my dresses for weddings are J.Crew bridesmaid dresses, snapped up on clearance or thrifted. They are stylish and well-made (the internal construction on my bow monde dress is amazing!) but still plain enough that I can change the accessories around for different looks.

However, you do have to be careful that you are not going to show up in the same dress as the bridesmaids! I often ask at the bridal shower or root around on Facebook to make sure.

The other great place, if you have one, is Nordstrom Rack. I just bought a gorgeous Tahari dress for 75% off that I will be wearing to a fall wedding.
