I’m unconvinced that tights weather has abandoned the Midwest for the season. Since we frequently have snow in May, I just can’t believe that spring is here to stay. Did that rhyme? Wow. Bonus.

Nevertheless, our recent warm spell has me implementing a tried-and-true warm weather trick: When my legs are hairy in the extreme and I don’t have time to shave, I haul out a maxi dress or skirt. Less itchy than pants yet effectively conceals my gams. This marvelously comfortable jersey knit dress was a great choice for a day of writing, erranding, and project planning.

On the fence about ankle-length skirts? Check out this recent post about how to make peace with maxis!

Oh lord.. was a I supposed to be conflicted about maxi dresses?? I love mine. They are OH so forgiving when mid cycle weight is killing me… sweet and sexy.. win-win!

Cute outfit! Q: do you wear shapewear under outfits like the one you posted? I am often self conscious about “extra jiggle” when I’m wearing skirts like this. But then, shapewear underneath would completely reduce the ease and comfort afforded by maxi skirts/dresses! What say you?

I jiggled TONS wearing this! But shape wear totally cancels all the comfy, so I’m willing to just deal ;)

That Karen Kane dress is gorgeous. I’m always surprised to see the funky dresses that come from that brand.

I kind of don’t know how to get dressed lately. I know most people are getting a warm snap, but here in the South it’s probably going to stay warm. It’s weird to already be dressing for summer-like days.

Sal, thank you for writing about how you choose maxi skirts and dresses on days that you want to conceal leg hair. I’ve come to depend upon your blog for honesty and great style advice. This article is a wonderful example of both.

That dress is gorgeous! And I love the addition of the addition of the cardigan to keep it from getting too summery in early spring!

Oh, that dress is lovely. And Karen Kane, too — I’ll bet it’s made of that same soft, bouncy fabric as the dress you gave me.
