Insomniac Sale Picks: Tailored Below-the-Knee Skirts

*In this new late-night feature – which will run Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week – I’ll gather up three fun items that are currently on sale online and share them with you! I would LOVE suggestions: Stylish wide-width pumps? Classic v-necked sweaters? Chandelier earrings? Petite dress slacks? What would you like to see featured?*

Danielle requested a few picks for tailored below-the-knee skirts, so here we go:

Notre Dame Skirt – was $118, now $69

This classic pencil skirt is a wool-poly blend, and comes in this cheeky yellow as well as basic black, a fun purple, and lovely bright pink. Vendor has designated this as a below-the-knee skirt, and I’m inclined to believe them even though the photo shows it just barely covering the kneecap: Remember, models are tall! Size availability is spotty, but certain colors are available in sizes 2 to 18, petite sizes 2 to 10.

ASOS Midi Pencil Skirt with Front Split – was $63.63, now $25.45

This skirt has a rather high front split, which will make it wonderfully walkable … but likely a better bet for cold, tights-wearing weather than hot summer days. A lovely high waisted fit gives this skirt a retro vibe. Available in a cactus green, pale blue, cobalt, and this firey red. 31″ hem. Certain colors available in sizes 2 to 14.

Fire Midi Pencil Skirt  – was $30, now $15

This is definitely the budget option of the night, which is likely because this particular skirt is unlined and a pull-on, casual style. However, in addition to this funky orange, it comes in basic black and could be dressed up beautifully with the right blazer or cardigan. Available in sizes S to XL in both colors.

Other not-currently-on-sale resources for tailored below-the-knee skirts:

  1. Topshop – Some of this shop’s offerings are a bit flowy, but most are office-appropriate. This bias cut midi is available in petite and tall sizes.
  2. ASOS – It feels like cheating to pick a vendor that I’ve already highlighted above, but people, ASOS has dozens of tailored midi skirts. Dozens!
  3. And, of course, THRIFT STORES! Midi and longer length pencil skirts have been popular in decades past, which means they’ll be available used. (thethriftshopper.com can help you locate stores near you.)

    Hey Sally,

I love this new addition to your blog. If possible, I would appreciate some pointers on where to get a good quality and stylish briefcase or bag. I’m looking for something that would fit a at least a big legal sized file folder!

    Thanks!

      You bet, Bee!

Can petite girls wear these skirts too? I’m 5’4” and I would love a more modest pencil skirt in my wardrobe!

    • Sal

You can wear whatever you’d like, of course! A below-the-knee skirt on a petite frame is likely to shorten the leg line, though, so consider doing complementary hosiery and shoes if you’re worried about looking shorter.

        Thanks sally 🙂

For the Notre Dame skirt- Boden is British, so for us Yanks don’t forget that a size 18 is really a 12 or 14. 🙂

  • on my computer screen, that funky orange sure looks a *lot* like “tangerine tango,” aka Pantone’s colour of the year for 2012!! =)
