Insomniac Sale Picks: High Rise Skinny Jeans

*In this new late-night feature – which will run Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week – I’ll gather up three fun items that are currently on sale online and share them with you! I would LOVE suggestions: Stylish wide-width pumps? Classic v-necked sweaters? Chandelier earrings? Petite dress slacks? What would you like to see featured?*

Sara requested a few picks for high rise skinny jeans, so here we go:

Not Your Daughters Jeans Suzy Skinny Leg – was $120, now $83.99

These lovely dark wash skinnies have a 10″ rise in front and a hit of spandex for stretch and comfort. I’ve heard many, many friends, clients, and fellow bloggers sing the praises of this brand, though I’m yet to try it myself. This pair is definitely my favorite of the group I was able to track down. Available in sizes 0 to 18, with a 32″ inseam.

Levi’s Juniors BF Skinny Crop Jean – was $58, now $44.99

This cropped pair was one of the few I could find at a lower price point with a decent size range still available, and even so only goes through size 17. Cropped skinnies are often more convenient for tucking into boots, and this length may work for petites or women with long torsos and short legs. 25″ inseam, 8″ front rise. (Also notes are incorrect, these are 99% cotton, 1% elastane.)

Volcom High Tower Skinny Jeans – was $109.50, now $78.99

These mid-blue wash skinnies are a good option for women who DON’T like a lot of stretch in their jeans. As a reviewer has noted, that 1% elastane means these don’t have a ton of give – which means they will take some breaking in. But it also means they won’t bag and sag toward the end of a day of wearing. Available in sizes 0 through 13, 34″ inseam, 10″ front rise.

Other not-currently-on-sale resources for high rise skinny jeans:

  1. Amazon – Includes a few plus-sized offerings as well as lots of rinses and crops.
  2. Piperlime – No idea why, but this online shoe retailer has over 20 styles designated as high-rise and skinny. Check measurements, and be prepared for high prices – most are designer brands.
  3. J.Crewicon – Eight styles available right now, including tall sizes.

Don’t do it! I bought high rise skinny jeans a year or two ago on he advice of a friend ( “they’re so flattering!”), and I think I regret them more than any other purchase I’ve ever made. They are sooooo uncomfortable. Don’t plan to sit while wearing them.

    • Sal

Really? I’ve got a couple of pairs and LOVE them! Can you share the brand or style?

  • Kathleen

After having a baby (and gaining a “pooch”) I tried on a pair of NYDJ and HATED them! I know they work for many women, but they were cut much more like “mom jeans” than I’d anticipated. Very high rise both front and back, weird amounts of room in weird spaces, etc.. (FWIF, I’m no skinny gal – 5’9″, 150 pounds with ample butt/thighs,, size 30 in 7 Brand jeans.)

A thought on a budget option: I’ve been buying Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda slim-leg jeans at Kohl’s or JC Penney and I love them. They’re high-rise (to my belly button) and they come in tall lengths–I’m only 5’6″, but I find the average length a little short on me (I think I must have disproportionately long legs. They have a touch of spandex, so feel good all day, and the legs are slim enough that I can tuck them in my boots. Plus they come in denim and colors: red! teal! purple! At Kohl’s, with a sale and a 30% coupon, I’ve gotten them for as little as $14 each. I think they tend to run a bit big–I weigh 160 and would normally wear a 10 in pants, even a 12 in Levi’s, but for these the size 8 fits great.

I love those jeans, I have 4 pairs (light blue, dark blue, black, brown)! But I find they aren’t skinny enough to tuck into boots.

  • Shannon

This is so perfect, I’ve been looking for high rise skinny jeans! Thank you!

Can you show us some skinny jean stylings appropriate for a 40something woman? I just bought my first pair this year and feel like I need something longer to wear on top as the shape really accentuates my butt and thigh area. Also, besides boots and flats, what other shoes look stylish with this type of jean? BTW-my jeans are quite comfy and no issues when sitting down.

BDG High Rise Cigarette Jeans from Urban Outfitters. I ADORE them–own multiple pair. And they’re very reasonably priced too!

  • You posted this at the perfect time for me! I just received the NYDJ skinnies from Zappos. This is my first pair of skinny jeans, and they’re perfect! Even my husband thinks they look good, and he’s the last person I’d go to for fashion advice. Thank you.

  • Wendi

Would you consider searching for long fabric scarves to feature one week? I have this great one that is 8 feet long, and I’d like a few more that size. So, 8 foot or longer fabric scarves, if you’re up for it? Thank you! I love your blog very much. 🙂

    • Sal

Oh my gosh, Wendi, that is long! Not sure that’s a good fit for this feature, but I’ll try to track down a few and e-mail ya. Thanks for your kind words about my blog!
