Insomniac Sale Picks: Eye-catching Scarves

*In this new late-night feature – which will run Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week – I’ll gather up three fun items that are currently on sale online and share them with you! I would LOVE suggestions: Stylish wide-width pumps? Classic v-necked sweaters? Chandelier earrings? Petite dress slacks? What would you like to see featured?*

Marlee requested a few picks for scarves featuring interesting patterns, fabrics, or colors, so here we go:

Black Floral Scarf – was $28, now $14.90

I believe that a black scarf with a bright, colored pattern might just be the ultimate bridging piece, especially for winter dressing. We tend to gravitate toward black and dark neutrals this time of year, and a scarf like this one with some bold tones folded into its print allows us to bring color into our outfits. With this, you could do a red dress and black tights, or a black sweater and mustard skirt, or a turquoise blouse and black slacks … the possibilities are endless!

Express Square Silk Scarf – was $49.90, now $19.99
PLUS an additional 20% off at checkout!

For years, I was put off by scarves that featured writing or elaborate scenes. Eventually I realized that none of those elements are discernible when the scarf is being worn, and can add mystery and interest to a scarf-based look. On this particular piece, the writing isn’t exactly profound – “Love Express” – but as you can see from the inset, it looks abstract, chic, and utterly marvelous tied and worn. Also it’s 100% silk. Yum.

Pleated Paisley Shawl – was $14.99, now $12

How sumptuous is that color/texture combo? This pashmina-style scarf is ideal for anyone who gravitates toward autumnal and earth tones, and will mix well with warm neutrals. Since the pattern has lovely little shots of purple and leaf green, it also could look sophisticated with dusty, spring-y colors. Another marvelous bridging piece!

Tilo Abstract Scarf – was $175, now $122.50

I’m throwing this one in as a bonus because it’s still massively expensive even at 30% off. But people, will you LOOK at this scarf?!? It’s 100% wool, entirely handmade, and so gorgeous it brings tears to my eyes. This piece has real heirloom potential.

Other not-currently-on-sale resources for eye-catching scarves:

  1. Topshop – My cat scarf hails from Topshop, and they’ve got a bevy of lovely wraps and wisps on offer. Plus free international shipping for orders over $75!
  2. Etsy – Hand-dyed, hand-knitted, and artisan-designed with a helping heap of gorgeous vintage, too.
  3. And, of course, THRIFT STORES! The majority of my scarf collection is thrifted. You can generally get good quality scarves for $5 or less at secondhand shops. (thethriftshopper.com can help you locate stores near you.)

Love that black floral scarf – so useful.

The black one is so versatile, I want it, but on a self imposed shopping ban for a bit…and I figured out my scarf problem of earlier this week, only flowy soft ones, otherwise I look like a big busted line backer 🙂

    Merry christmas

Thanks! I love this post. (I mean, I requested the theme, so why wouldn’t I? :D) I also have discovered http://www.happyscarf.com and http://purseandclutch.com/scarves as great inexpensive scarf resources!
