Just because I changed my hair doesn’t mean I’ve forfeited my position as Mayor of Matchy-Matchytown. Don’t let’s be silly.

It’s been ages since I did a red/black pairing, and I’d forgotten how much I love these shades together. Something about the cut of the dress and cardigan made me err on the retro side with shoes and jewelry. Though I must admit that the brooch was HM‘s suggestion.

I’ve had these Fluevog sandals for years and years and although they’re darling, they’re not exactly go-tos. Because holy cow, that’s a lot of toe to show. I feel like I should be playing piano with my feet when I wear these bad boys.

Ohhh, this is one of my favorite color combinations! And one of the few ways I manage to wear color daily.

And your new haircut is absolutely flattering to your beautiful face :) . I like it!

not only do I love the matchy-matchiness of the particular pieces, but adoring how your new haircut let’s your gorgeous crown tattoo participate too!

lovely ensemble… from top to bottom :)

Black and red is such a classic combo and you look so incredibly lovely. I am really loving that hairstyle on you. And yes, that is a lot of toe being shown, but I like how it looks with the outfit!

i’m really liking your hair, sal. it’s sassy. :) it looked lovely before, of course, but this is a nice change and has a little funk to it.

(since you mentioned in a previous post) whenever i change my hair cut or color i always have a little adjustment period where i have to figure out how it works with whatever I’ve got in my closet. heh. it’s funny how things like that can shake up one’s whole aesthetic/stylistic world-view…for a little while anyway. :)

Red and black is always a great combination. Those shoes show a lot of toe but I still love them. They’re quite unique.

I really love your short haircut! It really allows you to show off your earrings to their full advantage. :)

Such a cut outfit! I think I may copy this look with a yellow dress I have.

I am not a fan of toe-y shoes – I have really long slender toes and I feel freakish when I show the entire toe, without a strap or band across them.

You look so cute. I can’t get over how cute your hair has turned out. I love the heel on those sandals. So cute.

I really love your new haircut! And this outfit is really cute — for some reason it reminds me of the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland (in a good way.)

I love that look!! The retro feel is great and red/black is one of my favorite combos. Haircut is awesome, too!!!

That is an extra-pretty dress and wow, you look so cool in your new haircut. I personally like to show a lot of toe – is that so naughty? : >

Great outfit. And I can’t get over how fabulous your new ‘do’ is. :)

P.S. You’ve probably noticed that the Fluevog Faith Rahab’s are on mega sale now, the price is $99 from $209… just thought to let you know in case you might have missed it. I know that you wanted the orange ones. :)

This dress gives me the major happies. There’s something so wonderful about a piece that makes you feel colorful and confident and completely put together. I especially love how you’re highlighting your body art — the way the dress and cardigan work with your neck tattoo is super lovely.

Gorgeous! And I’ll take those sandals off your hands (feet!) if you don’t wear them often… ya know, cuz I’m nice like that!

I adore the pixie on you! I like how it’s styled in this photo the best… pulled forward on your face and parted. Super-duper! You’ve been hinting at going pixie for awhile. Bravo on taking the plunge! It’s only hair right! It grows back if you change your mind!

Tricia August 2, 2011 at 9:20 pm

Your hair is even cuter here than in the earlier pictures! You ROCK the pixie.

This outfit thrills me! I may have even squeaked when I saw it! It all just fits together. I love the red and black matching and I think the sandals are awesome. The metal detail looks great with the outfit and I don’t think it’s too much toe at all.

I agree such as great colour combination. I rarely do red, but this had inspired me to take another look.
I was shocked about your hair, but in a good way, and thought you were so brave as I couldn’t go that short :) Not sure what I wanted to say, but I love that you went that short as it’s beautiful!

Wow the new short hair fits you so well, combined with today’s outfit it looks especially great. Kind of makes me want ot try a short cut too.

The hair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know I can’t get away with just saying that, so suffice to say I ADORE your new ‘do! So, so cute! This reminds me of when my sister got her hair cut really short–it just really lights up your face and suits you beautifully! (Plus a great way to beat the summer heat… Yes, I’m jealous because I don’t have the chutzpah to get mine all cut off… lol.)

Love the outfit too… ;)

I love outfit this kind of outfit–a definite retro look without being costumey. A short cardigan like this is near the top of my list for things to get or make for fall, and I’ve been picturing it with a full-skirted dress like this. Must add this outfit to my Pinterest “Style” board! :)

I have to agree- your hair looks fantastic! Since you are a naturally curly/wavy gal, has your hair been cooperating so far with your pixie cut? I’ve thought about doing this myself, but not sure if my own curly/wavy hair would lay right. Are you just letting it air dry or are you blow-drying it? Either way, it looks amazing!

Reply

Sal August 3, 2011 at 7:55 am

My stylist left a good amount of length on top to accommodate curls and waves, so it’s been working beautifully. The cut is really the thing – he worked HARD to do piece-y layers. And I’m still air drying. I suck at blow drying!

Reply

JV August 3, 2011 at 12:44 pm

I am officially envious! I thought for sure you must’ve blow-dried your ‘do because it looks so fantastic! You really did get a great cut!! :)

Once again, the neck tattoo and outfit go hand in hand…so cute. is this on purpose? also, i’d never heard of eshakti…do they retail anywhere?

Reply

Sal August 3, 2011 at 1:16 pm

Nope, don’t match the ink to the outfits on purpose, but it’s nice when it happens organically.

eShakti is online only.

You’re continuing to rock the short hair! I’m glad you came over to our side, where there are cool necks in the summertime! And your tattoo is showing off so beautifully, especially since it goes with your black and red outfit.

I love your new haircut, but I have to say that I ESPECIALLY love the way it takes off with a snappy retro-50s outfit like this one. SO cool. And that toe-piano comment is so darned funny. Bless you! And I have to just reiterate, you look so marvelous in mid-20th century styles. You so rock them. You have the perfect figure and, I think, demeanour and energy for them. I used to own a vintage shop, ya can tell right? LOL! But truly, for some people vintage just looks stodgy. Not you, ever. :-)
