Sally on Twin Cities Live

by Sally on January 4, 2011 · 28 comments

So! Back in October I was interviewed on a local afternoon TV program called Twin Cities Live. We chatted about the blog, and did a segment on how shoes can make or break an outfit. I posted a link to the host station’s website, but tons of you were unable to view it … so, at long last, I’ve uploaded it to my YouTube channel.

A couple of things I feel compelled to point out:

  • The DVD they gave me needed loads of tweaking to create a YouTube compatible file, so the first 30 seconds or so are cut off.
  • I ASKED if I should face the hosts, and was told yes. This resulted in the Wall of Unruly Hair that you see in the clip.  Grrrr.

OK, now that I’ve kvetched … the segment was tons of fun to shoot, especially since I got to drag my friends Mary, Barbara, and Sasha along with me. Hope you enjoy it! I swear that it’s really me behind the Wall of Unruly Hair!

Well done Sally, I loved that! You know when you hear someone on the radio, and you expect them to look a certain way? I just had the opposite with your voice – wasn’t what I expected (don’t know why) but it made me love the segment more. I’m glad you got to use your friends as models: we have a lot of morning/daytime national shows in the UK that have fashions for ‘the average women’ and they always ALWAYS use catalogue models, which is completely pointless for anyone watching! PS I need some pumps.

Oh Sal you’re fabulous! I post a lot on a fitness forum and found a young woman my age the other day that wanted to lose weight and has horrible self-esteem. I told her learning how to dress herself to flatter her figure would help the self-esteem which would help in getting fit. <3 I am so glad you feel the same way, I know that's exactly what helped me because now I am kind of conceited about my looks! Haha.

You have such a nice voice. And you’re quite telegenic. You should consider launching your own fashion vlog. :)

I liked how you handled the male newscaster’s dumb question “Is there ever a time when you want to do the opposite? You know, cut your legs off?” It reminded me of the color commentator in “Best In Show” who would say things like “Miniature poodles!? I would think you’d want to breed them bigger!”

Hahaha. A lot of people have commented about that offline, too. But it actually gave me a GREAT opportunity to point out that traditional figure flattery isn’t the end-all, be-all!

And I should totally watch “Best in Show” again … ;)

I was thinking the same thing, and before you answered I was wondering what you would say. You handled it with such tact. What a silly question!

And I agree – you handled his off-the-cuff question beautifully.

And have to comment again to say how proud I am of you. You give such amazing advice, and are so down to earth and relatable and cute – loved this segment! You deserve all the success in the world, I know you are helping women think differently about themselves and their bodies. Go girl!

This was so great, Sal! Thanks for sharing it with us. I do have to say that I like to rock ankle boots with dresses, but I completely agree with you that it works best with like-colored tights/leggings. Otherwise you def. look cut off. Also think that the skirt needs to end a little above the knee or higher, knee-below the knee needs a tall boot, as you show us so often.

You looked svelt and chic, and your hair was not a wall! don;t be so hard on yourself – isn’t that what you always tell us? ;) I enjoyed seeing you relax as the segment went on, you are so comfortable in front of the camera, you should do more TV! Loved it, lady!
