Since we received 18 inches of snow this weekend and awoke to -25 degree windchill this morning, can we call it winter? Even in advance of the solstice? Something about bitter cold makes me want to wear looooong skirts and loads of layers. In addition to the three visible here, hidden layers include cotton leggings and a floor-length black silk skirt.

This outfit was partially designed around this utterly gorgeous belt, but doesn’t showcase the piece as well as I’d like. I’ll cook up something more belt-centric in advance of the upcoming giveaway!

You look lovely! My cousin lives in the cities and was trapped at school. And finals weren’t canceled. Crazy!

It was 70 degrees in Texas today. Cut your weather in half and send it this way? Thanks :)

And there’s another colour combo I wouldn’t think of – black and browns – and I LOVE it! I have some ridiculous idea that there is some ‘rule’ about wearing black with brown (I don’t know why – I happily wear blue/green and pink/red combos).

You look fabulous Sal – I love the lengths and layers – and the fab cloggy/chunky boots peeking out. That belt looks super cute too – I hope the giveaway will include we Australians! Sarah xxx

I was just thinking that I should cook up a post on typically-taboo color combos! Thanks for the reminder, beautiful!

This is a beautiful look, 18″ or not!

You look so gorgeous! The outfit looks warm but so sleek and chic. The floor length cardi is divine.

What great lengths you’ve gone to, Sal! (snicker snicker)
You look elegant and cozy, a hard combo to master!

Ah, you have a REAL winter! My school’s been delayed for tomorrow due to the “cold temperatures” down here in Indiana. Not snow–cold temperatures. Sal, it’s 14 degrees out right now with absolutely no chance of even hitting 0 by tomorrow. Besides the fairly obvious fact that we have school INSIDE.
As a Canadian, I’m somewhere between groaning, rolling my eyes, and snickering behind my hand. I usually settle for all three.
P.S. Nice cardigan.

I love the full-length skirt with the long duster! That belt is the perfect touch.

Ooh, way to be practical and sleek on this work day post snowpocalypse. You’re looking toasty and lean.

Beautiful! You are rocking some tricky colors there, I’m in awe. I love long layers (long anything, really… as a super-tall girl it’s one of the few looks I feel is specially designed for me), especially when they’re taken out of their (I suppose somewhat odd) summer context. I was wondering how you combat static, though… in this look it seems like the silk under-skirt would help, but even silk tends to cling for me, especially with leggings and long skirts. I know the lotion-on-tights trick, but something that lasts the whole day would be wonderful.

Oh Esti, I wish I had a cure-all. My silk slips generally combat static for me, and if I’m wearing a lined skirt I don’t have problems … but sometimes I get the dreaded cling and just suffer. I feel odd about lotion on tights, fearing it’ll gunk them up for good.

I guess my best advice is to go for silk or slippery underlayers with some WEIGHT. Thin silk is great for being non-bulky, but if it accumulates static, it bunches. The silk skirt under my dress yesterday is thick and heavy, so it weighs itself down. Helps a ton. No pun intended. ;)

That cardigan is amazing! I don’t think I’ve ever seen one that long before! You look nice and toasty. =)

I’d love to see a post on taboo colour combos! Lately I’m all about black and navy – love it! Sometimes I go wild and wear black, brown and navy all at the same time ;)

Mm, mustard! One of my very favourite colours to wear.

I wish I could find a cardigan that crazy-long.

That’s a great-looking outfit, but did you work from home? When the snow is deep, I feel like anything long is just going to get wet and drippy. If I might have to walk through drifts, I tuck skinny jeans into boots, or even wear a short skirt with thick tights, so that no fabric is anywhere near the ground.
I guess I should go take that poll now, and put “practicality” at the top of my list!
Love the color combo. I wish I could wear yellow near my face without looking ill.

Hahaha. Nope, I went into the office. It was so cold yesterday that nothing was even remotely melty. Also the sidewalks and such are generally pretty clear, and I don’t spend much time outside!

I LOVE the layered mustard shirt under all the black. And I’ve been wearing long underwear and wool everyday this week. It’s SO COLD!

I love this look! The super long cardi with the maxi dress makes you seem so tall and the boots are so cool! I always think of maxi skirts as something that lets the wind and cold in but I also never thought of how many layers you could hide under there!

My goodness, you look so cozy! I wish I could rock the long skirts and dresses, but they really stumpify me. Based on this pic, I feel like I should just bite the bullet occasionally and bundle up anyway!

Also, re: cold – I have some friends in northwest Florida that are teachers. The students were actually allowed to not come to school because the weather was too cold yesterday – which means it was probably in the 30s, and no precipitation. Ridiculous!!

It’s far too early to be this cold, I feel, but it’s even colder (and far snowier) where you are. Stay warm!

I love this look, though. It’s chic, yet looks very cozy and ready for the cold. You wear layers so well – they don’t look bulky and work together fluidly – and this outfit demonstrates that.

I love this warm and cozy look but . . . those boots are to die for! I had never heard of the brand Antelope – but I sure know it now. You have turned me into a seeker-of-boot deals. My best so far is a pair of Red Wing “Nashua” boots for $19.95 – and I LOVE them!

It looks like something you’d see on Star Wars… like a Jedi costume. A fun idea for Comic Con; not everyday.
