Neon spot skirt, thrifted
Black opaques, Spanx
Black boots, Kork-ease Alva
Black sash, thrifted
The outfit I’d planned to wear looked like the fashion version of a hotdish: Messy and hastily thrown-together. But by the time I’d figured that out, I was already running 10 minutes late. And so we have this: Black, black, blackness with a touch of neon. I wanted to wear my bright orange obi to break up the darkness, but the proportions were all wrong. Yes, it was a frustrating morning.
Plus it was snowing. Grrrr.

Even before I read your description I was going to comment on how cute that outfit was! Love the sash, and the slightly puffed sleeves.
Also I always am on the lookout for sweater dresses that are flattering and not too curve-hugging or too sacklike…
Haha same as Kat here : I find the outfit well put together ! I like the black ribbon on your waist but how does it stay put ??? I tried it with an outfit lately but it got all twisted and weird so I had to replace it by a belt…

Grrr indeed! I can barely get myself out of bed these days. I think snow would totally throw me over the edge.
Those sleeves are to die for!
Actually, if I can find the dress I'm thinking of (I hope I can find it), you've inspired my outfit for tomorrow! That's exciting!
Hi! I came across your blog via Between Laundry Days. I am a Minneapolis-based blogger as well and I love coming across other Twin Cities folk who write and blog about fashion! I am definitely adding you to my list of blogs I read… it's great to see what other women are doing and wearing during these cold months in Minnesota. I'll be back for more!
When my husband and I were in MN a few years ago, the nice lady at the airport car rental place told us we HAD to try hotdish on a stick at the state fair.
"What's that?" we asked.
"Well, it's hotdish, but it's on a stick!"
Um, ok. Being from New England, we had no idea what hotdish was. After we Googled it, we had no idea how it could be put on a stick. But actually it turned out to be pretty tasty!
Anonymous: Oh yes indeed! I grew up in Chicago and had never heard of hotdish till I moved here. Husband Mike cooked it for me on our second date! (Awww.)
I wish I could look so pulled together while running ten minutes late and on my second outfit. I thought it was super cute.
A little dash of neon is always a good thing!
Love this outfit! It would've looked killer with some orange, but I didn't even think about that till you mentioned it.
But like hotdish, this outfit is pretty darn good. I like the monochromatic-with-a-dash-of-flavor.
I still remember my first hotdish (some meat with corn and tater tots on top).
Plus the black is classic, not bland!
How do you like the Spanx tights? I would love to know.
I love the skirt peeking out. It's a great focal point. It also reminds me I need to hit my thrift store for layering skirts more often.
Although.. the outfit does seem a bit like a winter outfit. Like K.Line, I'm already dreading the snow. Brr!
Oh, that's VERY clever! I love it!
But… there's a bow! What can possibly be wrong with an outfit that includes a bow?
Also, snow is pretty cool, methinks. Waiting for it to start here!
Cheers,
poet
Well I think you look great. And I wish it would snow here; our high yesterday was 92. I am beyond sick of the record heat around here.
I can't believe you have snow! We are dealing with almost 90-degree weather here in H-town (although I think a cold front is coming through today…fingers crossed!).
I love the pop of color your skirt lends to your look – fantastic!
I'm loving the mini-sweater dress over the skirt. I'm so going to have to try that!
I like all the black on you! You look intimidatingly cool and artsy!
All black looks lovely on you.
Huh. I'd call today's outfit Hotdish, too because of the full black plus polka dots. It's the monochromatic black with a bit of contrasting color that defines it for me.
But then my favorite hotdish is made with hamburger, cheddar cheese soup, diced tomatoes, and chopped onions topped with refrigerator biscuits and cooked in ramekins rather than a pan. I call it "Cheeseburger Whatever" (the "whatever" comes from the fact that the dish is made from whatever I have on hand. I don't usually stock cream of mushroom soup in my pantry.)
My second favorite hotdish replaces the cheese with jalepeno peppers, extra tomatoes, cumin and coriander, and the refrigerator biscuits with a package of corn bread mix. That's my "Mexican Whatever."
I'd also never heard the "hotdish" until you posted it. I'm from Kansas. We just call it "casserole."
Well you do look gorgeous anyhow and the touch of red lipstick is great.
Have a great day and well enjoy the snow (I heard that it was 23° C in New York).
