Lovely Links: 8/13/10

Leetle bit quiet around the Interwebs this week …

Medicinal Marzipan shares her thoughts on being a “pretty fat girl” and discusses the idea of a hierarchy of fatness.

Very, very quietly, several high-end designer lines have started creating and selling plus-sized clothing. Wonder when they’ll start actually ADVERTISING to this new-to-them demographic …

GoTryItOn is a relatively new site where users give each other realtime feedback on outfits. Has anyone tried it? (Via College Fashion)

It was the SS10 Celine line that made me fall hard for my Jeffrey Campbell Snicks. And those chunky clunkers still make my heart go pitter-pat.

The Budgetnista has a few choice words for those who try to create strict fashion rules, especially about age-appropriate dressing.

I sent WendyB a very special image of me wearing my swear rings. Click to see and read HM’s associated commentary.

Is negative body image a choice?

According to a recent study published in the Journal of Social Psychology, attractive women are discriminated against when applying for jobs considered “masculine” – like director of finance, mechanical engineer, or construction supervisor.

Several denim companies are working to create jeans that fit your booty better. While Old Navy’s technology has gotten mixed reviews, hopes are high for Levi’s Curve ID line. (Via Nubbytwiglet.)

Have fashion magazines ceased to be helpful resources?

Husband Mike has a new project: A blog in which he interviews local MN artists. First up? A reprint of an interview with local fashion luminary Emma Berg.

I’ll be speaking on a panel about giveaways and integrity at the MN Blogger Conference in September. Hope to see you there!

I would totally love to see a Safe Cosmetics Bill. I think it's long overdue! Congrats on HM's new blog! Wish I could attend your talk. I'd love to hear what you have to say on those subjects.

Thanks for the mention Sally, but I really want to know what you think about age appropriate dressing because I had someone leave me a very snarky comment prior to me publishing my post! LOL

I use gotryiton.com- its alright, but the users are pretty conservative when it comes to my vintage style. I mostly just get told to tone it down and stop being so matchy-matchy, which is pretty annoying as a good percentage of users don't put that much effort or thought into their outfits. That being said, I do get some positive feedback from time to time – good for the ego đŸ™‚

Thanks for linking to the article about Levi's new jeans… I checked out the site and took the little quiz and although who knows if any jean will ever fit me off the rack… I was impressed with how they have a little link where you can see pictures of women wearing the jeans, and lo and behold, there are not models on this page, but regular gals of all shapes and sizes wearing the jeans.
