Casual Outfit Roundup: Week of July 18

by Sally on July 24, 2010 · 22 comments

Tunic, vintage sale
Harness, AudraJean
Platforms, John Fluevog Haight
Bangle, eBay

I couldn’t resist. I had to wear my awesome harness again, this time for Weird Friday at the office. I am continually impressed at its ability to create structure where there is none. This tunic is straight up-and-down on its own, but looks fantastically fitted with the addition of the harness.

Bolero, Opitz Outlet
Turquoise dress, H&M
Platforms, Kork-Ease Bette
Cuff, a gift from Cal
Earrings, a shop in SF

It cooled off slightly on Sunday, so I was able to do some light layering. I love these two vibrant hues paired together.

I love the turquoise and red combination!

That harness is TOTALLY awesome! And it looks fabulous on you!

I like the harness better with this dress than with the floral one. I think the sleeves work better than the spaghetti straps.

Dang it, now I want one!

I really like the harness. I've already made the store a favorite so we'll have to see how long before I get brave and order one.

That harness is awesome! What a fun piece to add to an outfit. Very cute.

I looove the brown dress. The sleeves are the best shape.

ooh, the turquoise and red combo is one of my favorite pairings, too – and you look fab in it!

Oh my gosh, that top outfit is *stunning*! It's waist-defining, emboobening, color-coordinated (but not too matchy), and ever-so-slightly subversive… while still being appropriate for a lot of workplaces. (And the shoes, which aren't a style I normally go for, mirror the strappy structure of the harness beautifully.)

I'll cut short the gushing and just say – you really hit it out of the park with this one, Sal!

The harness together with that tunic ROCK!! How comfortable is the harness?

Hurrah! Glad you gals are digging the harness. Giveaway forthcoming, I promise.

laniza: It's super, SUPER comfortable. The buckles are adjustable, of course, so you can make it as loose or tight as you like. And even on a very loose setting, it still adds loads of definition. 100% awesome.

The fifties retro pattern on the first frock is so delightful – but what you've done with it has given it the vavoom factor. Ah, the colour story! brown hair, brown eyes, brown harness, brown in frock and brown sandals = head-to-toe STATEMENT. Am looking forward to when you do a brown accent again!

I love that harness and I think it does wonders not only for the shape of that dress, but also to break up the pattern a bit to keep it from being overwhelming.

Love both of these outfits! The pattern in the first dress is great and the color combo in the second outfit is fantastic.

I'm still a little scared of the harness. On other people (like you), it's awesome. On me, I'm not sure. I feel like maybe I'm too short for such a strong accessory.

That turquoise color looks great, and it's so flattering for fair skin. I'm about as ghostly pale as they come, so I need to get more of it in my closet!

I agree that the harness looks a lot better on this dress than the first one.

Love the turquoise and red together. Saw Carrie on Sex and the City wearing it and totally earmarked it for an outfit. You beat me to it. :-)

Is there an age limit on that harness, in anyone's opinion? I'd love to have one but I don't want to look like I am trying to pass for 30 with a face that is clearly 40.

wow, that harness is wild! And turquoise with coral red recently became one of my all-time fave colour combinations (after a front-page etsy treasury in those colours) and I'm waiting for an opportunity to construct an outfit in those colours.

I have the turquoise dress, too! One of my favorite pieces this summer. At least until I slapped a mosquito and spilled red wine all over it. Now it's a "stay home & play with the kids" dress. :(

Wow, the harness was MADE to go with that dress! I second your assessment of the comfort, too — no squeezing at the waist, and yet it's so figure-defining.

I adore the harness belt with that dress! I'm itching for one of my own, or one of Audi's other belts. And I love that bold and gorgeous turquoise and coral combination. The hemline on that dress is fantastic!
