WHEW! What an amazing lineup of gorgeous women! This is everyone who left a comment saying she would participate – if you’re playing along and your link is missing, just holler and I’ll update.

I’m thrilled that so many of you decided to take part in this challenge, and can’t wait to see all the black-free looks you assemble as the week wears on. And, of course, you non-bloggers should feel free to e-mail your photos to me if you’d like to be included in the roundup.

As for my outfit …

Brown and white floral scarf, I won it from Fashion Herald ages ago
White floral brooch, don’t remember
Brown boatneck tee, Banana Republic outlet
White skirt, Banana Republic
White sandals, Dolce Vita Pela
Brown bangles, thrifted

Not my most vibrant, but well within the rules and a good reminder that black-free looks needn’t be riotiously colorful! I biked today and needed something packable, so this simple ensemble fit the bill. I adore this floaty cotton scarf as it is perfect for summer wear, has such a fun pattern, and reminds me that chocolate brown and bright white can look just fantastic together.

More BLACK-OUT fun tomorrow!

drollgirl: Oh man, me too. It's all I can do not to snap 'em up in pink. ;)

fun! I'm not participating because a.) I actually don't own much black and b.) I'm writing seminar papers and grading this week and my clothes are pretty much dead last on the list of important things, just below personal hygiene (kidding! but seriously, I'll hardly leave this kitchen table for the next 4 days). Buuut, fun to watch you all dress up and dream about the days when summer might finally return to Seattle… =)

thanks for the props on the necklace, Sal! Can you believe the materials cost me less than 10 bucks? WAY better than dropping $200 at anthro for polyester ribbon and glass pearls!

Oh, I love this idea Sal but most of my work wardrobe is black, grey, navy, etc. Typical corporate fare. I will live vicariously through you and the other lovely bloggers who are participating!

Yay! So exciting- thanks for including me in the list. :) Red, white, and blue were part of my non-black ensemble today. This is very fun, since all of us bloggers are participating together.

hugs,
Lydia

…and I think those wedges would be killer in pink. Not to be a bad influence or anything ;)

awesome–i'm excited to check them out! sorry i'm not in on the fun, i've been swamped with work lately and can barely stay on top of getting dressed at all.
p.s. i LOVE you in brown. you should banish black more often!

Rebecca June 7, 2010 at 7:48 pm

I think brown and white is a great summer color combination. Neutral, but not as harsh as black and white.

For a long time I had it stuck in my head that brunettes should not wear brown. I'm glad I got over that rule.

I've said it before – or thought it before, not sure – that I ADORE those shoes. Forgot to comment earlier!

Wow, what a list!

Been a crazy weekend, and I forgot all about this! Still managed to not have a scrap of black on today, luckily. Today was totally a comfort day, though… perhaps I shall email you a photo of a day when I'm feeling prettier! :)

Oh those shoes are all sorts of fabulous! I love the wedge even more this summer, and those are so much fun with all the straps. That scarf is a marvelous touch, and I love how you've worn it here.

I'm participating! Have been so inspired by your blog, which I only discovered a couple weeks ago. I go back and forth between work clothes and "mom at home with two boys age 2 and 6) so it's an interesting/fun challenge for me on both fronts.
You've also inspired me to a) return to a thrift store for the first time since high school and b) pledge to not buy any solids for a while (my wardrobe was making me yawn)…
Don't know I can get photos of me in all clothes (generally changing right after getting home so I can get out in the dirt with the boys, but will try to get the outfits).

This is a very sophisticated color palette but I love how you kept it fun with the scarf and AMAZING wedges!

Can I participate? I thought I couldn't with the black in my skirt pattern for Jane's wardrobe challenge- but I can! It's not the Background- so I am in! I'll post it on today's outfit post :)

Just wanted to let you know, Sal, that I've hit a bit of a snag so far: yesterday's outfit got doused in hot run-off from a fresh-baked cherry pie before I had a chance to photograph it, and I spent today in PJs thanks to an oncoming cold. So, although none of it's been black, there's not much to see here yet! ;c)

Hoping for better luck tomorrow,

Linguist Barbie
