Daily Outfit: 4/6/10

Red bolero, Opitz Outlet
Black tee, Banana Republic Outlet
Black skirt, Banana Republic via eBay
Scarf as belt, some boutique in central California
Black flats, Target
Bangles, Fringe
Hoop earrings, Patina

When I sang the praises of my flame orange BR full skirt a few weeks back, reader Sarah said she felt the same way, owned the skirt in all three colors, and suggested I keep an eye on eBay. THANK YOU, SARAH! For a whopping $9.99 I scored the skirt in black last week. Now, on to tan …

Oh, and thanks for all the suggestions for flats, you sweeties. I’ve got a couple of more inexpensive but supportive/well-built pairs on the way. But unless it turns out heels are causing the back woes, I doubt I’ll convert to flats and start stocking up. These are just to tide me over until I can bust out the sandals!

Oooh, you look very sophisticated and I like how you brightened up the black with some bright colors!

Love the scarf as a belt. And you may be won round to flats in the end. Personally, I swap between them and 5 inch heels and love both.

I'm so happy for you, finding your absolute favorite skirt in other colors and for just $10, that's amazing! Love the orange scarf on your waist!

That scarf is lovely (and especially so as a belt)! I am impressed with your ebay prowess!

I've been thinking of getting (or making) a bolero for my graduation dress. And this one is perfect!

I'm a big fan of the scarf as belt. it adds the right amount of color and pattern.

Go Sal, rocking the bolero as usual! I love the awesome print belt. I have some printed fabric and some black dresses. I feel another Sal inspiration coming up!

Almost all flats suck for support and comfort. I get back pain with flats, not heels, so I am hoping for you that it's not the shoes!

Get the 3-pack of Dr. Scholl's inserts and throw them in those Target flats and whatever is on the way; trust me.

You look so cute! Seriously, how do you find a BR skirt on ebay for $9.99? Everytime I'm looking for one it's starts for like 50 bucks! What a steal! : )

Oh so cute! You've got me intrigued to check ebay as well! Did you just search for Banana Republic skirts or did you use more specified search terms?

I'm new to your blog but I'm loving it already :-)

Sal, I am loving you in your flats. It does seem like wearing flats is subtley changing your style. I think you look great both ways, but I have always believed personal style is more defined in the way we put things together than in the particular items themselves. Rock on with your challenge, girlfriend, I know you are going to make lemonade.

I LOVE THIS OUTFIT!
(I'm really excited about the flats btw, I can't wear heels everyday, wish I could!!)

Question on Banana Republic, since I never have shopped there, what are their sizes similar to?

Oooh, I love this outfit! Everything about it is so adorable. I love how the red and orange shades are reflected again in the tattoo on your foot. :)

I also wanted to let you know about something unrelated, but awesome… TOMs Shoes (www.tomsshoes.com) is sponsoring One Day Without Shoes (www.onedaywithoutshoes.com) TOMORROW, April 8th. It is a day designated for everyone to go barefoot, to raise awareness about impoverished children who cannot afford the basic need of footwear. So if you, or any of your readers, could help spread the word and go barefoot tomorrow (be it for an hour or a few minutes or all day) it would be AMAZING!

Thanks so much in advance. I love your blog! You do so much good for people with your uplifting and meaningful content… it is just wonderful. :)

Laura: Hmmm, sizing can vary a bit at BR, but I'd say it's pretty close to GAP sizing.

I am sure someone MAY have mentioned this, but as far as flats go, if you hit up Wal-Mart you can–

No no wait! Come back!

I get all my flats at Wal-Mart. Sizing is true. Support is next to zero for some, be careful. Don't get the ones on the hangers, those will fall apart in a week (but are good emergency backup shoes in my experience). Flats in boxes. I bought a pair of faux-snakeskin ones with metal studs (they. are. awesome) a couple of weeks ago for nine dollars there and they have garnered more compliments than my twenty dollar Target flats and are VASTLY more comfortable.

You can spoil your feet walking around in shoes with good support–trufax! There have been ~studies.~ I wore nothing but cardboard flipflops through high school, then graduated to supportless flats, and I can walk barefoot for miles over concrete without my legs or back getting sore (the calluses, of course, will come with time, and may or may not be something you wish to cultivate; I highly recommend it, although they are gross). It just takes some time to adjust :)
