Daily Outfit: 3/25/10

Black blazer, Gap
Olive tee, American Apparel via Amazon
Skirt, another Australia purchase … some darling boutique in Melbourne
Olive tights, Target
Oxford wedges, Laura Brandon Haley
Chain bracelet, thrifted
Skinny brown belt, thrifted

Today, I gave a presentation to a group of women who work for the federal government. The topic was “professional dressing on a budget,” a subject close to my heart. They seemed to enjoy it, although I did catch some snoozers toward the end!

Anyhoo, I wanted to look slightly buttoned-up but not TOO conservative. And so we have this quirky little ensemble, complete with yet another Australia trip purchase. I swear I didn’t wear them two days in a row on purpose!

I realized just recently that a belt worn underneath a top layer – such as a cardigan or blazer – can still do wonders for waist definition. I figured since the belt is mostly masked, it’d be useless. Not so! And I felt both defined and polished once I added this skinny belt to the mix.

I wish I could take that class! I work for the federal government, in an agency that's mostly men. It's easy for them to wear a tie and button down shirt every day. It's much harder for me to figure out what to wear that's appropriately formal, yet unique.
