I had a doctor’s appointment today, and dealing with a skirt and tights at the doc’s is simply too annoying … so I grudgingly went with pants. Effing pants. This outfit is almost an exact replica of one worn last winter, with one important difference:

The shoes! This is their debut wearing, and the bow detail was obscured by my pantlegs … but it was fun to waltz around all day harboring a little footwear secret.

This is also my first time with these fishnet trouser socks, and I ADORE them. To me, pumps on a totally exposed foot look odd in winter, peeking out all naked-like from beneath a trouser leg. But oftentimes, solid trouser socks look strange to me, too. These are the perfect compromise: A little bit of texture and color, but nothing overpowering.

You look adorable! And the fishnet socks are brilliant! I was having that same conversation (with myself) today about bare ankles during winter but not really knowing what to wear instead (since socks sometimes seem like too much). I do like a good knee sock or trouser sock but just not all of the time. You have definitely given me something else to try. Thanks for idea!
Those shoes are so adorable!
Amazing shoes!! I love how the yellow in the necklace matches them but yet no one really knows that. Great idea on the fishnets too! I'm going to have to pick up a pair.
The shoes are fantastic! I like the heel shape, color, EVERYTHING about them.
This outfit is adorable!! I love all these colors together and… OMG, how cute are you shoes?!
xoxo

I like it, even if you are wearing dreaded pants. Thinking of what I have in my closet to copy it.
Hi Sal – I found you through Andrea's 'Woman of the Week' post. I'm so glad I did – your posts are definitely part of my 'daily reads' now.
Love the bows on your shoes! They are adorable!
x
Those pumps are absolutely divine! Please to send them to me now!
Holy baloney, those shoes are the S@#! You look gorgeous. These are YOUR colors, Sal.
Those shoes are so cool!
Love this one! I never pair necklaces with turtle/cowlnecks – but this has given me some ideas…
Love the shoes!!
The teal blue tee & shoes are perfect match Sal…witty details!
xo
I love those shoes!! Are they comfy? I've had kind of mixed results with Punkrose in the past.
The teal and yellow colour combination is fantastic. And those shoes… to. die. for.
Michelle: They DEFINITELY need some breaking in, but I think they'll be pretty comfy after 4 or 5 wearings. The roomy round toe and sturdy heel help a lot!
The bows on the back of your shoes – how marvelous! And I love how you complimented them with the pretty yellow necklace. Great balance of color.
I wear fishnet trouser socks every day; I'm student teaching at an elementary school, and it's hardto dress like Myself in that setting. The socks help.
Also, your necklace is a great touch.
I love the shoe/sock look going on here! But, I do have to ask… as a fellow Minneapolis resident, how did you do it on a day like today (negative windchill and a whole bunch of snow & ice, for you non-locals)? Do you wear boots and carry the shoes with you from building to building? I also work on campus, and I have to say that even just the walk from bus stop/parking lot to office building seems far too treacherous to attempt in anything less than wool socks and excellent traction…
What pretty shoes! I want shoes with bows on them!
Shoe bows! Woot!
Too cute! I like how the teal shirt and shoes match, and your necklace and shoes secretly match too!
LURVE the pop of yellow against the teal. and the fact that the necklace matched the unseen bow on your shoes is like your own personal little secret.
I think its soo cool how the colours in the shoes go perfectly with your calf tattoo!
They'll look awesome with a bare leg in summer
The shoes! My goodness the shoes! They're awesome! What a fun surprise with the yellow bow in the back!
I'm going to need to find some of those fishnet trouser socks. I also don't feel right with a bare foot in winter, and that's a great looking alternative.
I love this outfit – hope the doctor's appointment went well!
Emily: OH YES. I wear my big, clonky North Face boots when I'm outside, and carry the pumps and socks in a tote. I'd either freeze or slip and crack my head open if I wore these to trot around Mpls. Thanks for having me clarify!
WOW, what a great pair of shoes !
ZOMG! Great outfit–flattering, innovative color combo.
I love the turquoise and yellow together, but Ah!!!! those shoes! I am in love!
Oh man oh man oh man – those shoes are phenomenal!!! Plus love the mix of colors!
Those shoes are just gorgeous, and I love the idea of fishnet trouser socks.
I've been wanting to ask this for a while – how do you choose what colors to put together. I tend to go with all neutrals and one color because I don't know which colors to put together. Teal and lime (as I see them on my monitor) are definitely an interesting combination. Are there any rules you use?
Silver Sisters: You know, I take a lot of inspiration from other bloggers and from magazine spreads. In this case, though, the necklace was the inspiration. It’s mainly yellow, but has some teal and brown in it, so I just picked those up. And then I knew gray and yellow looked fresh together. Accessories like colorful necklaces and scarves can be great jumping-off points, and can make an otherwise nonsensical-seeming color combo totally work.
I’ll try to do a post soon on experimenting with color!
Ohhh those shoooooeeessssss!
(also: man I could have used fishnet socks yesterday! I kept taking my trouser socks on and off and couldn't decide what to do!)
cutest shoes ever!!
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love LOVE!
I know you don't like pants, but this is an incredibly flattering outfit on you! The shoes are beyond adorable, and fishnet trouser socks? Brilliant!
I just love this outfit. I mean, I always think you look great, but something about this outfit jives with me.
i LOVE this, and you've matched everything perfectly.
those bows on the shoes are awesome, of course.
Tell us more about the bows…are they leather? Faux leather? Satin?
Kasmira: They're leather! Which accounts for the slightly crumpled look.
It's been said, I'll say it again…
AMAZING SHOES!
Hey, those effing pants look pretty damn good! The shoes, obvs, are to die for; love the little bow details and can't wait to see them when it's a skirt day again.
I love, love, love the shoes!!! holy cow, hotness. and, do tell, where do get fishnet trousers socks?
Those shoes are to DIE for!! soooooooooooo cute! I love them!

I believe these shoes belong to the "good enough to eat" category. Oh, yes they do!
i am dying over those shoes!
GASP! that's what i just did when i saw the shoes. perfect.
I read your PantsRant post and I certainly can't imagine liking pants if I had to wear longjohns or tights beneath!
But this LJ-free outfit is so great on you I hope you continue with the work-arounds. Looks like a clear case of Pants: Trying Hard to Win Your Love to me….
After reading your post I tried silk longjohns under my pants and uh, yeah–hellish. Guess I should be more thankful for our crappy endless rain and relatively mild winters, since there's barely enough room for *me* in my pants as it is, ha.
Because I'm a weather wimp and need to stay warm, though, I dig out the no-waistband pantyhose and pop them under pants. Even lined pants. And then I wear boots with socks and/or sheepskin liners all day. Obviously I'm not really about the cute shoes in winter!
[I take it you're not a fan of The Hose? There are such great textured/patterned ones out there now; they'd be so fun peeping between hem and shoe.]
