Random Outfit Roundup: July, part I

Teal tank, American Apparel via Yque
Minneapolis sheer shirt, I Like You
Gray skinny Levis, Urban Outfitters
Studded bracelet, Diesel
Gray platforms, Kenneth Cole Rocky Canyon

(Thanks, as always, to Cal for doing my stranded-at-work outfit shots!)

Don't see me in a lot of graphic tees, do ya? Well this one is a fave. It hails from I Like You, a boutique that ALL TC residents should frequent for quirky jewelry, handmade homewares, and incomparable tees. This one deserves a close-up:

ARRRRR, MATEYS!

Ribbon top, Anthropologie, several years ago
Yellow tank, thrifted
Yellow skirt, thrifted
Teal Katia Mary Janes, John Fluevog
Necklace, self-made
Bracelets, Bibelot Shops

This top is a favorite of mine, but falls firmly into the category of "made-up clothes" according to Husband Mike. I didn't reap a lot of compliments when I wore it to work this time around, but there is no chance of this little beauty hitting the giveaway pile. No way, no how!

I was floored to find that my pale yellow tank and pale yellow skirt, thrifted separately and several years apart, match PERFECTLY. Talk about thrifting synchronicity ...

Turquoise tank, American Apparel via Yque
Navy blazer, J.Crew via eBay
White cigarette pants, Banana Republic
Saddle belt, AudraJean
Necklace, purekatherine (who seems to be on hiatus)
Gray platforms, Kenneth Cole Rocky Canyon

Yes, those KC platforms were a worthwhile investment. Surprisingly, so were the white cigarette pants. The tanks, too! I stocked up on bright AA tanks for layering toward the beginning of the summer, and they've already proven themselves invaluable. Summer layering can be tricky, but tanks are my go-to piece when I want to add a bit more color, or need a few more inches of length for reasons of proportionality.

Sassy sundress, Collaborations Boutique in Stillwater, MN
John Fluevog Haights
Bracelets, Bibelot Shops

Stillwater is one of our favorite daytrips, and Collaborations Boutique is aa non-negotiable stop once we get there. Owner Angela Hudson has spectacular taste in clothing and accessories, and her miniature schnauzer, Ruby, is the sweetest dog in the history of time. I never seem to have any dough when we hit Collaborations, which makes me feel overwhelmingly guilty. I put this dress on the credit card last summer because we'd loitered there so many times, chatting away and playing with Ruby, that I just couldn't stand it. I adore that shop! I want to support it! And this dress was a great pick: SO comfy, easy, and flattering. Throw on a pair of chunky sandals and be done.

World's weirdest LAmade vest, Asinamali in Evanston
White AA tee via Yque
Khaki skirt, Banana Republic
John Fluevog Haights

You think I kid about this being the world's weirdest vest? Check it:

Mom and I hit Asinamali during the June trip home, and as I was amassing items to try on, I came across this bizarro thing. It was SO weird, I simply had to try it on. Mom and I were both amazed at how fun and funky ... and flattering it was. Cal suggested I try belting it, which I totally will next time!

As usual, Sal, you've got a bunch of inspiring and colorful outfits! :D That vest is so fun... I just love things like that; they look weird off, but make sense when draped over the body. So neat!

Three favorite things about this post: gorgeous Stillwater dress, those KC platform (truly fab!), and your beaming smile. Oh, and the weirdest. vest. ever. I want one!

The vest is wild. I would not have been able to figure out how to put it on. And I'm really impressed by how you manage to wear totally different outfits with totally different shoes in all of your random outfit roundups. If I did one, I suspect you'd see either a)everything looking sort of themed and the same shoes 4 out of 5 times.

I would've skipped right over the awesome vest, nicely done!

I might like the made-up shirt more if you took a scissors and curled up the ribbons. What do you think?

That vest is so cool! I wouldn't have known what to do with it if I saw it out somewhere- but you wear it beautifully, Sal. Also, I'm a big fan of those Fluevog Haights- so versatile.
ps- Congrats on the tv interview below (dang it, I'm on a Mac always and forever). And I'll definitely check out your new site. Cath and I would love to do something like that for Decatur/Atlanta, GA.

The vest is great! I saw a minimalist Shakespeare play a couple of years ago and they used tons of pieces of fabric like that to show who was with which family, and it worked out really well. Men wore them one way, women another, and I really liked how clean the lines were. And now here's your vest! I'm going to play with this idea.

Ohhhh, and I loved the rest of your outfits as well. That little sundress is really sweet on you.

Sharon Rose said...

Hi there-great outfits my dear, my fave is the white dress, just perfect for summer!

Audi said...

That sassy sundress would be great for layering when it starts to cool down: put a knee-length skirt underneath and a cardi on top, belt the whole thing, et voila!

Also, I hope you're planning on wearing that awseome t-shirt on Talk Like a Pirate Day.
