Shopping: It’s Good for Your Abs

by Sal on June 10, 2009 · 39 comments

For the record, I do BOTH of these. The first one in place of crunches on alternate days, and the second in place of medicine ball oblique exercises on alternate days. Just so’s you know that I practice what I preach!

Something tells me you're really good at specialized dance moves, like the sprinkler, for instance :)

That's hysterical! You must have great abs to do the oblique muscles with your legs up… I don't think I'm ready for that one yet.

I love it! I like the raised-leg oblique crunches, though they kick my ass. I will try to remember them as a fun shopping move the next time I find myself (lovingly) cursing m,y trainer.

I love this! Thanks for posting…I go to a Boot Camp class and the instructor is also my personal trainer, who drills us on the ab work! There's nothing fun about it, except maybe the music…

You're adorable and fit! I did not know how you were going get from abs to shopping but you did :-)

Hehe, that is so cute. They *are* good exercises. Another lower ab move that works well (though is more related to cooking than shopping) is what the instructor of my workout class calls "stirring the pot" – you start out on your back on the mat with your feet on the floor & knees up, but they need to be hip distance apart. Then you put your hands together and make very broad circular "stirring" motions between your knees so that you are lifting & lowering your shoulderblades, using your abs to move you around.

You are so brilliant! I have a hard time doing exercises when they are just dull and repetitive, but doing the shopping cart!? Totally fun!

Reply

futurelint June 11, 2009 at 8:41 am

wow, the shopping cart… you are way too cute Sal (and I'll do ANYTHING to avoid doing crunches!)

Gillian June 11, 2009 at 6:47 pm

You're wearing make-up! Also, those actually DO look like fun.
