ManFashion Interlude: EVALUATED

by Sally on June 21, 2009 · 17 comments

When I was a teen, I lived in flannel, overalls, and combat boots and my dad called me “farmer Sal.” AND YET he always trusted me to pick out sweaters and shirts for him when he needed to do a shopping run at Marshall Fields.* But even without my guidance, my dad was always a sharp-dressed man. His recent penchant for Hawaiian shirts is a little alarming to me, but I feel that, overall, he’s got great taste.

It’s Father’s Day! How fashionable is YOUR dad?

*RIP

My father (RIP) was a corporate man, and only when he retired I saw him wearing jeans.
He was a well dressed man!!!!!

Happy Father's Day to all.
(here is on March, 19)

Hope you're having a good time, beauty

xoxo

My dad could be described in a variety of ways, but well-dressed is not among them. He loves hats (goofy, costume-y ones that look like he's an extra from the Sound of Music and missing his lederhosen) and big print shirts and ANYTHING that costs nothing! That is the measure of a great article of clothing: "I got this for five bucks!"

For all that, I love him, of course. But well-dressed, no.

My dad dresses reasonably well. He lives in his preppy lacoste/ralph lauren polo shirts!

Full tattoo sleeves, women's jeans, leather vests, and heavy silver chains… not my style, but he rocks it out, and I am proud of him for being himself and having fun with fashion. Plus, I think he does a pretty good job creating interesting outfits within his genre — last time I visited he bought some tissue-weight polos at J. Crew because he liked how you could see the tattoos through the fabric. It looked pretty cool!

Oh my father is sooo not fashionable. But that's ok, he very rarely needs to be, he rides motorbikes and builds stuff… he lives in work shorts and surf tshirts. It does the job… and mum'll have him scrubbed up in a shirt and tie when needed.

My dad just wear vintage sportswear, I say vintage, but really they are just old. He's still awesome in other ways though (as dads tend to be)

The antithesis of fashionable. Well, at least he doesn't dress like a slob. One thing I absolutely hate are his "dress" shoes. Oh, those things are hideous! hehe

Er … not at all? He wears socks tucked into his trousers. ;)

My dad required his shirts to have not one but two front pockets in order to carry all of his stuff. They had to be short sleeved. And he though clip-on ties were the best invention ever. So… fashionable, not much! But he was a great dad.

Recently my sister and I visited my dad's office. We were looking through old pictures on his desk, and she picked up one that was about 15 years old. He was wearing jeans in the photo- since it was a Sat he was wearing jeans that day too.
We realized they were either the exact jeans in the photo or the same style.
Sigh.

My dad often wears Hawaiian shirts too, but my style-savvy aunt has picked out some very nice shirts for him over the years in tasteful prints and sea blue/green colors that look great on him.

His non-work style is pretty casual, but most of the time (when not wearing a tee shirt) he looks pretty polished.

I also love that he's willing to sit down and watch What Not To Wear with his girls. :)

My dad was wearing pink button-ups to the before it was "fashionable" for men to do so. He's retired now, and usually goes with jeans and some form of "FSU DAD" t-shirt, but in his office days, he was quite the sharp dresser. He still brings out the ties for church on Sundays. I remember whenever he would have plans to go to one of my school events or if we were even just going out to lunch together, he would always let me pick out what I wanted him to wear…he still does that sometimes, on the rare occasions that we're in the same place, and I love it!

My dad became more fashionable as the years went on, thanks to my mom's style influence, but as a professor his uniform didn't vary much from typical academia-wear; the brands just got better.
My husband and I got him fitted for a Brooks Bros suit one year for Christmas which he loved.

haha how cute…i lived in the same things. my dad's impeccably dressed when he's dressed up (suits, etc) but casual wear is a whole different story.

My dad is mostly fashionable, but only because all of his clothing items are gifts from his children.
