This week I love ...

... springy sheaths in bold, bright colors.

Sheaths have become one of my favorite transitional pieces. I've been pairing them with heavy tights and bulky blazers all winter, but can't wait to switch to sandals and lightweight cardigans.

These basic, bright dresses create the perfect canvas for adventurous accessories, too: Long glittering necklaces, fun printed scarves, and embellished shoes will play beautifully off their clean lines and classic simplicity.

Jewel tones are so delicious, and sheaths are utterly fabulous, too - you can have so much fun with a bit of colour! :D

Oh, that first one is so yummy! And for a fair price too.

This just shows me why I heart Boden so much!!!

These are so lovely! The last Boden dress is my favorite, I think. I lately have been drawn to the idea of mixing up my wardrobe with staples that are more pop-bright colors, 'cause after all, that can making dressing up even more fun! :)

I'm seriously coveting that last dress... *sigh* lol!

Ahhh love the bright colours of course! The Calvin klein one is a beautiful colour and shape!

Hrm. I have a sort-of-shiny teal dress like this. I haven't worn it yet, because I was afraid it was too much color all at once, but maybe this inspires me to whip it out under a tan cardi...

I really love these vibrant colours. It's very cold here (again) today, but super sunny. So I'm into it!

Lovely picks. I love how a good, colorful sheath can be worn all year long, simply by changing what you wear with it.

I love sheaths - the only problem is that they are very expensive, for something generally very simple!

mysterycreature: Ahhh, but the sheath is a staple and well worth investing! OR! You can scour your local thrift emporium. I've landed several fave sheaths for $5 or less.

I love sheath dresses but I have the middle age bulge. I'm wondering if there is a way to wear this look without looking pregnant if your not a toothpick

Sal said...

Gladys: Hmmm, well it depends on how pronounced your tum is, I think. I've got a spare tire myself and have learned to just ignore the fact that it juts out a bit when I wear sheaths.

BUT! If you're self-conscious about it, I'd forego the sheath altogether and instead look for a structured sleeveless a-line. Something with princess seams (like a sheath), but with a skirt that flares out instead of tapers in. That style ought to be less constricting for your middle, especially if you're carrying the weight lower on your torso.

That Talbot's dress is hilariously frumpy. It needs a few tweaks!

Hey Sal: Re Gladys' question: I think as long as the tummy lump is concentrated (ie in one specific spot) rather than midsection being "tube-like", then a good support thong or some Spanx tights with tummy support (or even the slip version) could work very nicely. I too have a tummy - as everyone knows - but I don't really care so much in a sheath.

It's when the boobs/upper tum and lower tum start to blend in the sheath (which can really emphasize a tube shape) that things can be iffy, IMO. In which case I don't think it's an optimal shape of garment for the body type.

Happily there are many other dress shapes that are!

I love that first one you posted!

This is another great item I should keep in mind for my year abroad with its versatility level also pretty high, as you pointed out! S.
