This week I love …

… vests. Or waistcoats, if you will.

Silence & Noise Beaded Fringe Vest
Urban Outfitters, $19.99

I’ve been endlessly searching the thrift stores for a gray or brown tweed vest to pair with white oxfords, but recently started craving vests of all kinds. Loose and formless, funky and cropped, long and lean – all haunt my brainwaves. Although we’re nowhere near actual spring yet, I feel like a vest of any kind will be fabulous for spring transitional: Adding a bit of warmth and a lot of style to layered looks.

I like the Silence & Noise Beaded Fringe Vest, I'd probably wear that to the front instead of the back *wink*

I especially like the Gap and JCrew ones. Lately, I’ve been really craving a nice, tailored, solid black waistcoat. It seems like they were everywhere for awhile, but now they seem harder to find.

Vests are one of those garments I have never been able to master! These are all really nice takes on the style though–untraditional! :)

These are all so lovely & I wish I could pull off wearing a vest.

I have one, nice gray suit, with a sharp little 3 button vest that I love, but other than that one, I can't seem to find one that flatters me & my *big* chest… any thoughts???

Thanks!

Vests always feel like fall to me. Spring vests are making me reassess my assumptions.;-)

Me too, me too! After having shunned them for years, these casual, simple versions are really tempting me.

I love all these vests. I think they look best (on me) layered over tanks or sleeveless tops, so I’m waiting for summer to arrive before I can wear mine…

I agree with Bel that vests remind me of fall. But that argyle J Crew one is very cheerful spring. And cashmere!

Oh, and for Arlynn – as a fellow boob haver – a knit vest will be more flattering than any other kind. Make it fairly fitted (but the buttons shouldn’t gape) and have it stop at the waist. Then wear a longer fitted T underneath for a very elongating look. Dark colours work best (navy, garnet). Stay away from patterns.

K.Line: Thanks for taking that question on … I’m a bit under the weather and couldn’t think of a damn thing! Arlynn, I K’s got the right idea – let us know if her tips sound appealing or if you’re looking to wear a more structured vest …

I love these picks, especially that last one!

Yup! I have about 5 in my closet. Some of them even less practical – gauzy, beaded things. I highly recommend them though- you are so right about them being transition-wear!

Awesome choice of vests! Love the first two!

Ack, I love waistcoasts and vests – they’re so fabulous, yet I don’t seem to own any! It’s time to go shopping, I think! That first drapey-style one is exquisite..

Cute! Although I am more interested in that floral arm tattoo… too bad I will never be in the position to get such a visible piece.

Maybe some flowers on my side? Hmmmmm.

I love vests. I never thought they'd look good on me until my boyfriend insisted I try one on in H&M. I ended up with a new fashion obsession and a new shopping buddy!

The first one is great to wear casually and the Poslaparsia one is very unique..

PS. Don’t worry I didn’t freeze haha, I changed into a different outfit for the eve!

I’m with you! I searched high and low for a cashmere button-front version during fall, and I finally came up with an almost-ideal charcoal gray one.

These are much more interesting, though.

I have a big chest and love wearing vests, it’s just you may need to alter it to fit – buy to fit your boobs then take in the sides/back etc.

Let me chime in here on the boob issue…

I have the same problem, and I would prefer structured vests to “stretchy” ones. I have never messed with getting anything altered before… How much would it cost to alter a vest? The last time I bought a vest, I actually moved the buttons over just a smidgen to give myself maybe a quarter of an inch more room, and I added hooks in between to help with the gapping problem. It helped some (the vest was wearable), but it didn’t look quite as “nice” as it would have had it just fit right in the first place. But, maybe that would work better for someone else.

Surely there is a company out there that makes vests for ladies with boobs… Surely…

Oooh these are fantastic, I really like the asymmetrical waistcoat look. I’ve never really been one to wear a waistcoat without anything over the top…but I may have to give it a go.

Love, love, love vests! I found one at Ross just a couple of days ago. It’s gray, but the back and the lining are this wonderful paisley fabric. I’m considering ripping off the label and adding a set of buttons on the lined side and making it reversible because the fabric is so pretty.

Speaking of vests, I have this half sleeves black knit vest that I just don’t seem to figure out what to wear it with… I have tried pairing it with shirts, blouses, tees…it is a cute vest but it makes me look like a waitress at a restaurant or smtgh.. it looks too waitressy!
