This week I love … UPDATED!

Melissa.

I am not the first blogger to profess undying love for Melissa shoes, nor will I be the last. But since I FINALLY received my birthday-present-to-myself pair of dark purple Vinils last week, this fabulous line of funky footwear is top of mind. In case you’re unfamiliar with the brand, Melissa shoes are essentially jellies for grown-ups. Based in Brazil, the company has been praised for producing chic, eco-friendly designs from entirely man-made materials and drooled over for collaborating with such luminaries as Vivienne Westwood, Alexandre Herchcovitch, and Edson Matsuo. As for me, I just loooooove the colors!

All of the links above are to the Melissa online shop for Aussies, but as far as I can tell they ship internationally. If you’re loving these shoes but looking to shop in the U.S., try Tobi, Akira Chicago, Modachique, Eluxury, or Epaulet.

Oooh, and if you’ve got another Melissa-selling outlet, please share. I would prefer to stalk my favorite styles via as many avenues as possible.

UPDATED: Girls, I’m such a dork! Did I give any info on these shoes as actual wearables? No. Durr.

Although I donned mine on a reeeeeally cold day, and therefore with tights, I didn’t have any problems with hot, sweaty feet as one might expect with plastic shoes. Not sure how they’ll fare come summer, but I have high hopes. They’ve got some light padding on the sole and are quite comfortable, even with a massively high wedge. I give my vinils a big thumbs up so far.

If anyone else has worn Melissas and has opinions about fit, temperature issues, or anything else, please pipe up!

They’re very cute, but (forgive an indelicate question) don’t they make your feet sweat?

Deja Pseu: I’ve only worn mine once, but suprisingly, NO! My feet didn’t sweat at all. I was wearing tights and it was flippin’ cold, so we’ll see how they do come summer …

My only experience with plastic shoes includes some ill advised attempts at wearing jellies in the 80′s. You’ll have to tell us how these work out for you in the summer.

They’d be ab fab in the rain, wouldn’t they? Which London life definitely features. A lot.

Oh and great minds on the 1928 jewelry front ;) xx

I hear such mixed things about comfort with them — I guess it’s a very personal thing. I’d be scared to try them. Report back as the weather changes :-)

I just checked out their site and I can’t stop drooling! I’d love to get the Vinil in red and the Origami in hot pink. They also say that their shoes are extremely comfortable and not-sweaty, but I’ll have to wait for your personal review to be 100% sure, beautiful Sal. That, and find a site that ships in Greece. Someday…
When will we see yours in action?

PS: I read that old post of yours about tattoos, it was so well-written! It also reminded me why I should never get one myself. I tick all the wrong boxes!

hi, I’m from Brazil, and have been wearing Melissas ever since I was a kid. I can tell you from personal experience of MANY years and DOZENS of pairs that they DON’T make your feet sweat! :-D

misfit: YAY! I assumed that a designer from Brazil – a famously hot and steamy country – wouldn’t design shoes that make your feet hot. But good to get confirmation from the source.

Fun! I’m dying for some fun colored shoes. I wanna jazz up this buttoned up, corporate attire I’m in right now.

Wow! Those look fun! I like the Vinil. I would have liked the silver wedge, but not with a pointy toe. You’re right though… sweaty feet don’t sound fun!

Those shoes are adorable, I love the colours!

Ok, I’m going to differ on the sweaty feet thing. I had a pair of Melissas which were extremely comfortable and cute BUT got really stinky. Now, I am not a stinky footed woman, and usually do not get sweaty feet – so it was definitely the shoes that made the stinky sweatiness happen.

The ones I had had kind of sweat absorbing inner soles which were scented (which I think is a clue that the Melissa people know that foot stinkiness can occur in those shoes) but over time the stinkiness became bad enough for the shoes to end up in our rubbish bin.

You had me at jellies. I absolutely adored jellies when I was growing up, and if these are “essentially jellies for adults” then count me in!

Cute styles! I’m torn on the material. Can that really be comfortable?

I’ve never gotten a pair myself, but I see girls around my LA neighborhood now and again wearing them, and the girls are always flawlessly tasteful and the shoes only add to the look. Super cute. Actually, I think I ended up chatting with a few of their reps a couple years ago at their showroom during market week, and they were LOVELY. So, all signs point to awesome.

Hi, I just love your blog, I found out about you a couple of months ago from the writer Deanna Raybourn. I am curious how do you style your hair? I have naturally wavy hair & I can't seem to get the look I would like. Your hair always looks great & I wondering if you could share some tips with your readers?

Tina Marie: YAY! So glad you’re enjoying Already Pretty. You know, I’ve had a couple of folks ask about my hair, but my routine is so embarrassing, I’ve been loathe to share. I should just suck it up and start the conversation, though. Thanks for the reminder.

I think they rock, sooooooo cool.
I love the colours and shapes.
I’m in doubt about the material, being in plastic I don’t know how they’ll be wearable.
But I read about them in a portuguese blog and people were very pleased.

Ack. I hate it when online shoe sellers don’t list how high the heel is! These things are very important to us short people!

I am seriously addicted to these shoes. I have just bought two more pairs to add to my current eight pair collection.

Living in Australia I haven’t had too much of a problem with sweaty feet as most pairs do seem to have pretty good ventilation. I find them really comfortable too, and of course a fabulous attention grabber!
