All Smiles

I can’t resist sharing more of the photos Husband Mike took a few weeks back.

When Joanna approached me about doing a guest post for Smitten, she mentioned that I should include a photo of myself. This was both thrilling and alarming. Sure, I had 16 bajillion outfit shots … taken at night in my crappy hallway with our dying point-and-shoot. I didn’t have anything GOOD.

Luckily, I am married to a professional photographer.

Revelations from this shoot:

1. Although I am an expert at smiley face, I can’t do pouty face. I just end up looking like I’m about to eat your family. Or like I’m trying NOT to spit out my gum.

2. I also can’t pose. Like, at all. Mike would say, “Do something with your arms.” And I’d say, “But what? What WHAT WHAAAAAAAAAAAAT???!?!???!??” And then go back to crossing them.

3. I had this awesome idea for a really sexy kinda-crouched-over pose. Great in theory, but I mostly looked like a hunchbacked hooker in the finished shots. (This is the least offensive of the set.) Mike is a patient man who knows I require visible proof that my loony notions aren’t working out.

4. I’m fairly certain that having the man you love behind the lens makes you look WAY PRETTIER in the finished photos. Cuz, you guys, I rarely look this hot under normal circumstances.

My faves are the ones of you in black and white lounging on the sofa. You are beautiful!

Bee-utiful you sassy little minx. They’re all great…even the hunchback hooker.

Sal: I’m coming to MN and setting up a photo shoot with Mike. He is a fantastic photog – but of course he has fantastic material with which to work. You look more gorgeous in every one of these pics. Even the ones you think are funny.

I love the one where you’re standing on the chair, against the wall!
Hey, when are you going to tell us the story of your tattoo? When you got it, what it shows, we want to know the whole saga!
Please?

You are really wrong about the ‘eat your family’ look. It took my breath away! Gorgeous smiles, but your eyes really stand out in that one.

You look gorgeous, Sal! Rocking the statement necklaces (and is that fuscia dress the same as the red one in your necklace video?).

You are so gorgeous! :) I love the one of you standing on the chairs… so cute. And you’re bright dress really pops in that one!

If I’m selling on eBay, my boyfriend takes the pics. You’re right, the male half makes their female counterpart look great. Just look at all of Rumi of Fashion Toast.

What fun. The magenta pink dress is hot! The b&w outfit looks great. I need the services of a photographer!!

sal, what is this fuschia/magenta dress? It’s amazing!

The photos are beautiful! I disagree with your last comment 0 the only difference I see is yes, better lighting and a better camera. And some interesting locations (I love the 2nd photo – what is that, an old elevator behind you? The texture is so great!).

Maybe you’re just seeing things differently because you’re seeing through Husband Mike’s eyes for a change, instead of with the deprecation we tend to turn on ourselves. Possible?

Nice photos!

See, I can do the pouty face in photos, but my smile is huge and goofy and looks really bad when posed rather than spontaneous. The grass is always greener!

You ladies are too kind! Thanks for all the sweet compliments, and I’ll make sure Husband Mike trolls these comments for HIS share of the glory.

Lopi: I’ve got a post about tattoos coming up, as I’m preparing to get a couple more. I wrote about how I feel about tattooing in general a while back, but as for mine, they’re all highly personal. I have three and got each one at a turning point in my life. The green one is an abstract design that I drew within a few weeks of moving to Minneapolis, and had committed to skin about two years after that. It’s a growth symbol, and I love its vibrant greens.

Sheila: Good eye! I have this dress in red and magenta, thanks to my Gran who gave me one for Christmas and one for my birthday.

Fleur: The dress is from Talbots – can you believe it? There might still be a few on sale, if you hurry … but it was from their fall line.

Oh!My!God! We are twins. I can’t pout and I can’t pose. Luckily you have a pro photographer who can take these beautiful pictures. I can’t tell you the words that are sometimes exchanged around here after MrB attempts to take a photo but they would scare Christian Bale.

I love all these shots! You are too hard on yourself :)

I cannot stop staring at that one necklace you have on in a few of the shots… it’s in the one with your pouty trying-not-to-spit-your-gum-out picture. it’s gorg. (and btw, you don’t look like you are trying to spit out gum… you look beautiful!)

You look great! And I can’t believe you – if I had a professional photographer living in the same house as me, every time I had a good hair day or liked my new dress I would say “Husband! Capture this moment!”

My favorite is definitely the one with the piece of wood intersecting it. Seriously, I think it’s the most natural and interesting.
Which did you use???

Aww you look really radiant in all these photos! =D It’s so nice that your husband helps you take all those photos (well there’s no excuse for him if he doesn’t I suppose ;p). Is that a tattoo you have on your leg? What is it of?
